I don't know how you can say that. They've turned over a leaf in just about every subgenre of racing. Often times literally making *the* game that puts said subgenre on the map. It wouldn't surprise me if everyone making a rally game or even some kind of open racing game or even street racing game doesn't credit sega rally, crazy taxi or daytona usa as a formative title.

That doesn't mean they made BETTER racing games than their competition, they just provided great foundations.

Like don't get me wrong, I want a return to Daytona USA or Sega Super GT too but they're not THE BEST examples of the genre out there (although Daytona definitely has a claim near the top, even if I don't regard it as a top 5 for the genre).

I agree to an extent. Building those foundational racers that found the fun was incredibly significant. There are for sure games that dig deeper into those niches but it's undeniable their impact had a shockwave effect on everyone else contributing to the genre.

I never did say they were the best ever (although crazy taxi is one of the greatest games ever made, bar none.) But I enjoy the opportunity to talk about Sega racers.
