I'm pretty sure Kojima never even played Silent Hill. He was put on this project by someone else if my memory doesn't betray me.
Even if it's sad, OD probably will be what he wanted to do with Silent Hill, so I do not feel mad.

Why do you think that? It seemed pretty solid to me, had great atmosphere, and a legit scary enemy.
Keep in mind we only ever saw a tiny bit of what the whole game could be; we'd probably have access to the town itself at some point, who knows how things would've been in the town.

How would it have differed from a game like Outlast at the time?
I imagine it heavily influenced the development of the first-person Resident Evil titles that essentially saved that franchise but PT seemed set to transform into another hide-and-seek walking sim where you're helpless against enemies.

I'm hoping so. It seemed like a concept that was fine without the Silent Hill license attached to it anyway. I just want a game that's fully of the weird Psycho Mantis/Sorrow type fourth wall breaking shit that Kojima did with MGS, but with a pure horror game. Lisa being able to get you in the pause menu was brilliant.

There's no problem in experimenting with genres in new games in a series, as long as you take care to capture the essence of the series in the new game as well, IMO
