If you pay attention the combat is clunky too though. There's no animation cancels and ending lag is really inconsistent. For example, if you use your sacred tool combo, the final hit is generally really floaty and locks you in place. But if I use it while running, sometimes I'll do the first hit, and my character will keep moving, cancelling the combo, even if I'm mashing the button.

The series shows a bit of hypocrisy with the treatment of dragons though. The Dragons are pretty much nature incarnated into flesh, and the Earthmate's relationship with Dragons complicates that particular message/allegory.

Fiersome was just doing its job of resetting the world every few millienia as its part of the natural cycle, but Earthmates apparently saw it right to sacrifice one of their own every few centuries to forcefully put that fucker to sleep.
Venti was also just naturally reaching the end of her life, but Earthmates forced her to live way beyond her life expectancy even if they had to do some hardcore rune fuckery to do it.
