AI drove up GPU/PC prices up too much.
You can still get a cheap prebuilt or mini-PC that plays 1080p30-60fps but normalfags demand 4k60. A PC spec'd to hit that is way too expensive now, so they'll buy a PS5 that claims to hit that over a cheaper PC that can't.

pc gaming in 2025 is genuinely the worst thing ever. in 2000 you opened the game and played. in 2025 you have to revert and/or update drivers or else you get shit performance, you have to tinker around with tweaks and configs, you have to wait half an hr for shaders to build or suffer through stutters while playing, you have constant crashes due to dei programmers. it's a fucking joke. consoles are so much more superior.

PC's modern golden age was gen 8 when consoles were still heavily bottlenecked by jaguar CPUs so PC ports were easy to brute force, no longer the case with xbox/ps5's more modern zen cpus. Dogshit PC ports were the norm for a long time and are becoming the case again, gen 8 was an outlier.

This isn't even considering how overpriced PC parts are now. I can't justify upgrading my 2019 PC when I could get a ps5 pro instead

There are many take away from this, let's go for the nuance. For starters you have a generation of Gen Z who grew up with the PS4/Xbox One era when PC gaming didn't cost a lot. Not only that, GPU upgrade weren't mandated past DX11 (2011 IIRC). So you could get a lot of bang for buck the entire past decade+. This time your GPUs are squeezed out if they're 8GB VRAM and the prices for 16GB keeps going up, 600 dollars. The CPU side isn't much better and there was a category 10 nuke when Intel CPUs were undergoing oxidization due to poor factory standards, this affected more generations of Intel chips they're willing to admit.

The PS5 and Series X can do 4K 30FPS or variable 1080-1440p 60FPS. The average PC on Steam can't do either. The 1% that does have console killer PCs aren't the norm. It's actually quite fascinating how Sony basically lucked out this generation, despite having turd IQ Jim Ryan at the driver wheel they were able to ride out Concord and other disasters because the PC gaming line destroyed itself thanks to NVIDIA and AMD greed.

Both of these companies can and would rather produce AI wafer to sell to corporations at a nice juicy profit or they could try to make very bargain chips to sell at a so-so average. But one day someone woke up and said, what if we do BOTH? Let's make 75% AI chips and 25% higher end chips, this way our profit margins go up. And who's gonna complain? Just say "don't be poor". And that's how the PC GPU market got where it is today. CPU is also a little fucked up too.

Fuck no. PC gaming is still cheap as shit compared to the 90s or even 00s. GPU prices are out of control but everything else is way down from how it used to be, and hardware longevity is way better across the board. $2000 for a high-end system has pretty much remained a constant for as long as it's been possible to build your own PC. The 10s was the only time that all components were pretty cheap and you could get some of the best stuff on the market without breaking $1500.

Why do consolefags like to post sales numbers so much?
Is this how they compensate for their tiny dicks since they can't buy a truck like their boomer dad?

Problem with PS5 Pro is it misses out on Path tracing and PSSR is still in it's early days. You are spending 700-800 bucks for something still behind Nvidia.

Any hardware engineers ITT? Is it not possible to create a GPU that's good for games, but bad for ai? Seems like there would be a market in that space, but the big companies are too busy chasing AI money to care

You can build a computer that absolutely pulverizes a PS5 Pro for $1200:

You can build one that is more powerful than a PS5 pro for $800:

Throw a 20 dollar oem windows 11 key in them and you are set.

That's not the problem. The problem is that the amount of gpus they can make is limited, and margins on AI stuff is so much higher that there's very little reason to make gaming gpus when datacenter gpus make so much more money.

Blatantly untrue for series X/ps5s, 60fps has been the standard since the start of the gen with the exception of outliers like Digimon or that one capeshit game

>Sure thing bud! You totally weren't born in 2001!
"PC gaming is dead" was a common saying in the 2000s, for a good reason as well. PC devs were moving to console only or console focused development and PC ports were in a dire state. It wasn't too bad in, say, 2001 or 2 but after that things began to crack and PC wouldn't recover until the early 2010s

It wasn't that bad, I built a PC as a "stopgap measure" late 2018 thinking I'd replace a bunch of shit in 2-3 years. Then this whole garbage and COVID demand rises happened. I could watch every available 3070 go up in price daily from like โ‚ฌ600 to โ‚ฌ1100 at which point I just stopped caring.
At least a 5070Ti is at a very "reasonable" โ‚ฌ900 now. Fun times.

GPUs are costing too much, the Switch and Steam Deck are the future, PlayStation and Xbox will stop making hardware, Microsoft will stop with the Xbox OEMs, and both will fully go third party. PC handhelds that aren't the Steam Deck will die off leaving only the Steam Deck. AAA industry will collapse leading to indies and AAs taking the mantle and bringing back a new age of creativity and innovation, Japanese will take back their title, wokeness and hyper-realism will go away along with wasteful spending. Gaming can't go anywhere else because of diminishing returns. After Zen 6 UDNA, anything else from AMD will just be increments, Nvidia's GPUs cost too much. Nintendo will stick with the Switch 2 longer than the original Switch and Valve will stick with the Steam Deck 2 for a long time because there won't be another generational leap for decades and that jump will be ARM64.

PC can last with toasters, home console gaming is dead. This was built up for years to happen. Xbox and PlayStation gamers better be getting into Nintendo, getting a Steam Deck, or learn how to build PCs or use prebuilds.
