>>713188152There are many take away from this, let's go for the nuance. For starters you have a generation of Gen Z who grew up with the PS4/Xbox One era when PC gaming didn't cost a lot. Not only that, GPU upgrade weren't mandated past DX11 (2011 IIRC). So you could get a lot of bang for buck the entire past decade+. This time your GPUs are squeezed out if they're 8GB VRAM and the prices for 16GB keeps going up, 600 dollars. The CPU side isn't much better and there was a category 10 nuke when Intel CPUs were undergoing oxidization due to poor factory standards, this affected more generations of Intel chips they're willing to admit.
The PS5 and Series X can do 4K 30FPS or variable 1080-1440p 60FPS. The average PC on Steam can't do either. The 1% that does have console killer PCs aren't the norm. It's actually quite fascinating how Sony basically lucked out this generation, despite having turd IQ Jim Ryan at the driver wheel they were able to ride out Concord and other disasters because the PC gaming line destroyed itself thanks to NVIDIA and AMD greed.
Both of these companies can and would rather produce AI wafer to sell to corporations at a nice juicy profit or they could try to make very bargain chips to sell at a so-so average. But one day someone woke up and said, what if we do BOTH? Let's make 75% AI chips and 25% higher end chips, this way our profit margins go up. And who's gonna complain? Just say "don't be poor". And that's how the PC GPU market got where it is today. CPU is also a little fucked up too.
