That’s exactly how it was always intended. RE4 was never some hipster bastion for ironic comedy like you newfag secondaries seem to think. It merely carried on the series-spanning tradition of poorly translated Japanese with dialogue and jokes that dont mesh culturally outside of Japan.

Japanese people still do this by the way. For example, look at the recent Nightreign twitter advertisement. It displays gameplay footage while Evanescence “Wake Me Up Inside” plays. In the west, we understand that as some kind of post-irony humor making fun of 2000s demo melodrama. In Japan, that aesthetic is still considered cool and not supposed to be funny.

Sure, we are the reason. It's not like these companies had been creatively bankrupt for more than a decade prior to that. No, it is only now that some halfway competent remakes are getting made, now the integrity and creativity of the corporations is being jettisoned.
