Not quite, Dark Souls does give the localizers a lot of freedom and english is considered the main language, but the inconsistencies are just kept that way. They don't retranslate it to japanese. In MGR it was the localizers who wrote Armstrong's speech and then they translated it to japanese.

Underwhelming characters. From sex appeal to actual characterization, most of the cast is painfully bland.
Also the world itself, despite having obvious effort put into it, was also kind of meh in my opinion. Metaphor: ReFantazio makes is conformist. The early reviews of the game claim the opposite, citing progressive politics. I want to challenge the frankly absurd idea that this game is progressive, if ReFantazio offers anything it's a neoliberal worldview. Much of the game is about defeating bad eggs in positions of power only to replace them with "better leaders" instead of fundamentally challenging structures of power. Not much of a revolution, innit? I had the exact same issue with Persona 4/5, games happy to spout radical rhetoric while never actually challenging a single structure of power. New Atlus games love to wear the aesthetics of radical politics, but when push comes to shove they get shy and shrivel up. Take for example the Catherina social link in ReFantazio. Catherina is an outspoken Marxist who argues for wealth redistribution and a new world order that puts bounties on the heads of her racist bourgeoisie oppressors and proceeds to publicly guillotine them. This isn't me exaggerating, she says she wants to bring out guillotines several times (based!). As you progress through her social link however, the party teaches Catherina that killing rich people is bad, and that wealth redistribution is a dumb idea. Poor people should just work harder, simple as that.

Suddenly ReFantazio's mask is off, its protagonist talks of fighting for a utopia but the only utopia the game can imagine is one where rich and poor people get along, rather than a world where class is fundamentally abolished. What kind of optimistic utopia allows for the existence of an impoverished class?

Vendors will deny you service on the basis of your race and even starving homeless people feel bad for you. The issue with this is that Metaphor: ReFantazio is also a shonen power fantasy made for stinky gamers, so as soon as you level a few social links all the mechanics around oppression disappear and everybody loves you. Now stores give you discounts and you can do basically anything your heart desires. Once you have single-handedly overcome racism, go and max out your Tolerance™ stat so you can befriend all the minorities and level up! What a silly contradiction, the game's mechanics (perhaps unintentionally) suggest that all you need to do to overcome systemic oppression is pull yourself up by your bootstraps. The gamified racism stuff is corny at best and deeply problematic at worst. How do people take this seriously? I remember people complaining about Final Fantasy 16's handling of themes related to slavery for similar reasons, but where is the outrage against ReFantazio? ReFantazio makes FF16 look like Marx's Grundrisse!

Anyhow this is no love letter to Atlus' legacy, it's the cowardly and frankly embarrassing deathrattle of a developer that at one point had the guts to make art that spoke up against power. Now they just make products.

It has a few nice animated visuals and that's it. Now, to be fair, the story of Metaphor is MUCH more complex and ambitious than E33 which is essentially a personal family tragedy story at it's core.
