I wish I'd had this run before filling out the survey though because then I would have thought to ask Fromsoft to give all the spells a balance pass for usability, it's fucking stupid how fast Stars of Ruin is for how much damage it deals. It's barely slower to cast charged than basic glintblades or pebbles and it deals more damage than things like the crystal machinegun or the moons that take 20 seconds and all your mana to cast.
I really wish more spells were usable.

Duchess is the worst character in the game bar none. Guardian gets a lot of shit but at least there are niches and nightlords he is useful in. Duchess's Restage is theoretically strong but her damage is utterly gimped to compensate to where she is just profoundly worthless - especially as while she can proc status and Restage, that usually just ends up cranking the proc limit up immediately for no benefit.

I would MUCH rather have an Executor, he fills the exact same status gimmick while also having defensive options, not being half as squishy, and being far more versatile as the go-to "weapon master" character.

There is literally no better weapon for Wylder in the game than Helphen's Steeple outside of Grafted Blade which is hideously broken on everyone. If you can't find a Steeple or Ordovis' Greatsword, just upgrade his basic sword twice and use that.

Wylder's skill relic follow-up does so much damage and posture damage that you are correct in assuming using another weapon class is gimping you. If you want to use all weapon types with equal effectiveness, you pick Executor - who is not a Katana character but a jack of all trades status god.

Nah, I've recovered from double 3-downed teammates with Guardian before, you just need to be able to live long enough to build an ult and your teammates need to be smart enough to crawl together so you can actually hit them both with it.
Really the worst thing about his ult is the universal problem of the games terrible lock on system, many a time I've tried to use the ult to jump over the boss to revive a teammate and been unable to swap the lock on to the teammate once I'm in the air because it either keeps switching between different spots on the boss or just doesn't want to switch at all.

With Guardian I can just lock down most bosses to me by using the Extended Whirlwind relic + Steel Guard with Shibriri's Woe passive. Bosses will stick to you because the ability keeps aggroing them.

It's fairly standard fare souls difficulty solo. You get one pity revive on each night fight to compensate not having allies to revive you, and can get additional revives from merchants and sometimes bosses. Enemy HP and poise is multiplied by player count, so if you're competent it's fairly similar to a competent 3-man, and if you're a shitter it's similar to a party of shitters.
The main catches to solo are dealing with all aggro yourself unless you pick Revenant, and having to choose between revives and buffs/starlight shards for your item slots.
