I've been replaying FFX. It's kinda amazing how well written that game is (other than Seymour, this character was just ridiculous) taking into account it came out in 2001 and was developed in only two years. I have no idea how Square was able to deliver one FF per year.

i wish i could, 60fps is already annoying but i can deal with it, 30fps makes me not even bother with the game
but this game doesn't deserve to be treated to said standard

It's frame pacing combined with the fact that the game doesn't have super precise inputs, 30fps feels fine in this game but horrible in other games. I'm a graphics dev and I consider 60fps with decent frame pacing to be the minimum for anything coming out these days.

It's good that way. I don't know how japanese managed to find the right tone. It's a serious story, yet it's goofy, but it's never cynical like a modern marvel movie.

Cynicism spike from the "lost generation" that followed the Japanese economic bubble burst. It's not just JRPGs but all kinds of things from the 90s and 2000s. From then, it became a staple of YA literature or movies, shonen and seinen manga, and games ofc.

I refuse to consider this game well written because it's the same bleeding heart bullshit that so many other JRPGs try to push. "omg they didn't le know better, please le go easy on them".

Earlier today I was using the latest version (3.0) to scale Gex Trilogy which is locked to 30, scaling it all the way to 165 fps. Couldn’t really notice artifacts, and if I did the overall smoothness of the game is a fair trade off imo.

Creating a Faith is akin to turning a person into a processing unit. We don't know how turning them into stone works but from then on they constantly generate information that somehow manifests in the real world through the pyreflies. I don't remember if memory storage spheres had something to do with pyreflies also. I remember fiends came from dead people's angst and hateful data lingering around again manifesting through pyreflies.
Basically FFX has the whole pyrefly Mcguffin.

I put the original cloud higher up for that reason, he's a pretty good depiction of a mentally ill kid who's forced into a position he's clearly not ready for but is utterly convinced he's capable - remake version loses a lot of the nuance and makes him into an autist. As for vaan I'm not really sure how to explain why I'd put him there, but I wouldn't call him a non entity, he's a pretty solid part of why the plot pivots around the halfway point.

Tough one, but definitely somewhere in the top 5. While I'm at it, Jack is easily the best, no question.

Agreed, X genuinely has some of Nomura's worst designs ever and I still believe the only reason it took off was pretty graphics and voice acting

One of my favorite exchanges in all of FF7 because I relate to it

>Young Cloud
>Tifa always used to be with this three-some.

>Tifa
>...That's right.

>Young Cloud
>I used to think... they were all stupid.

>Tifa
>What!?

>Young Cloud
>You were all childish, laughing at every little stupid thing.

>Tifa
>But we were children, back then.

>Young Cloud
>...I know. I'm the one that was stupid.
>I really wanted to play with everyone, but I was never allowed into the group.
>Then later... I began to think I was different...
>That I was different from those immature kids.
>That then... maybe...
>Just maybe, they would invite me in.
>I thought that might happen, so I hung around...

>Young Cloud
>I was so prejudiced. And... weak.
