>>713217454 (OP) Because 1). Sonic is a franchise meant to have a wide appeal to general audiences and 2). Sonic games are usually pretty easy. So you get a lot of people who aren't very good at video games in the first place and they expect to be able to breeze through a Sonic game that was played by children, but Sonic 1 is one of the harder games in the series so they get frustrated at the game. People don't really get frustrated at games because they are hard, they get frustrated because they believe they should be doing better than they are, so dying is like an insult. It's an expectation versus result thing. You don't see people complaining about Mega Man games being difficult because that's the expectation of the series, but when someone is getting filtered by a Sonic game they get butthurt and will call the game shit. Add onto this that a lot of people are honestly shit at 2D platformers and you get people who say half or less of Sonic 1 isn't good. Also add on that your average modern gaymer has a mindset of dropping a game right after they beat it even if it's less than an hour long and is intended to be replayed, which means they never get better at the game.
>>713217454 (OP) The other 10% is the hard boiled fact that it's a shit game. It's like playing a racing game while only being allowed to look through the side window.

>>713217454 (OP) It's just not as interesting as the other games. It's fine, but I'd rather play 2, 3&K, or Mania over it any day
>>713217454 (OP) Since the later games weren't as good, people felt the need to justify their dislike by proclaiming the whole franchise to be bad. The quality of the older games don't actually matter, just the validation or saying "It was always bad!"

>>713220220 I'll gladly take the crown of retard because I think Marble Zone is the worst, and even that one is enjoyable.
>>713217454 (OP) Because understanding that this game operates on momentum physics and rolling is crucial to the game is too hard for most people to comprehend >I GOT BLINDSIDED WHILE RUNNING DOWN THIS HILL AND HIT AN ENEMY >I WAS RUNNING AND WENT UP A QUARTER PIPE AND LANDED RIGHT ON AN ENEMY Both situations would not occur had they been rolling(which also makes you faster)

The worst zone in the game is honestly Star Light, it's a less tightly designed Green Hill that also lacks a lot of the solid platforming and depth of the rest of the zones. The best part about GHZ is getting the speed monitors and zooming through the level but Star Light lacks this. It's still definitely not a bad zone though.

>>713220527 How often do these situations actually happen? Serious question, since people seem to take this at face value without even trying to mention examples. When I play, I took note of how there's often something guarding your from danger when running. It's most apparent in Green Hill, where the game will put a rock between you and an enemy so you always see them coming.
I miss the music from these games, theres some nice ones in the 3D ones but these bleeps and bloops encompass a whole different world that just doesnt seem to exist in this IP.
>>713221590 I don't think these situations virtually ever occur, but there are other times when you'll get hit by a spikeball without having time to react to it like in Scrap Brain. It's extremely rare for the game to just send you into an enemy after a slope, and of course if it does (I can't think of any examples) you can just roll.
>>713223971 I get it, you're bad at video games. I already acknowledged it.
