online only
ai opponents are pretty much impossible to make both exciting and fun, and single player racing games are poorly structured where you're expected to finish first in every race
online racing is much more fun when you are absolutely outclassed by first place and faster than last. actually battling for every position in the pack is the real joy of racing

The only way to make it more exciting is to have actual organized leagues like in real life organized motorsports, where points are accumulated over a series of races as opposed to single circuit racing where every place behind 1st might as well not exist as >>713217972 pointed out, but that demands a lot of time and coordination from everyone involved.

Honestly the closest I feel we've gotten to a racing event type of feeling without needing full on driving sims (so as in: a game and not a sim) is F-Zero 99. You can find organized play out there where volunteers rank your progress in private lobbies for events.
Past that, just check out iRacing.

>single player racing games are poorly structured where you're expected to finish first in every race
There was a brief period in the late 00s-early 10s when that wasn't necessarily the case. Games like GRID and Pro Street were just fine with you coming not in first, and let you through if you showed consistent enough results. Games prior were still riding the arcade inertia of "everything must be perfect", later games switched to "you deserve to win everything, sweetie!" model, but games from that period had the balance just right where they could afford AI that is neither overbearing nor piss easy.

This is the based and redpilled take. The artificial padding with the mandatory chases where you have to do the same 5 challenges 25 times, except the number gets bigger. It gets really bad around blacklist #5. I'm 100% okay with Carbon relegating the pursuits to Challenge Card unlocks for optional cars and upgrades.

Pro Street's Speed races unironically have some of the best sense of "oh fuck I'm going too fast" in all of racing. And you don't even have to be going super fast like on Nevada or Autobahn, the chopped up Wangan track that's more of a circuit still puts fear into you at sub-200 speeds (unless you're a wallriding cunt who thinks finishing every race damaged is not a cheatcode).

The narrow tracks are a joke if you have a decent car, the boss battles aren't even as memorable as NFSMW's (I literally can't remember a single boss despite beating that game at least 4x, but I'm sure anyone can remember half of MW's black list). The shorter play time is just due to the fact it has no fucking content, if you prefer replaying worse games just because they are shorter, that's on you.

carbon is only mw2 because of the protagonist and cross
literally the m3 wasn't even supposed to be in the start, it was supposed to be the supra in the prologue (although there's rumors that was also a placeholder)
if you get rid of those two the game has nothing to do with most wanted, which is why mw 2012 was going to be mw2 before that got scrapped as well

Great taste. The first GRID was fun enough to stay in the middle of ground. Lots of contact with enemies, great car destruction and the revert button.
Also, no bullshit story,no jarring stuff in career, very chill music in menu

What was wrong with 2019/Legends?
Anonymous No.713227346 >>713227798
>>713225838
Maybe hero racing might be the way to go for balance reasons, because if I was aping redline I'd want hyper levels of customization but I know it'd be a balancing nightmare leading to everyone just metaslaving the best loadout and killing the entertainment of variety.

Really aside from the deathrace itself, I've always thought that having an actual premier Yellowline race twice a day and during the 2~ hours leading up to it people with the best stats can participate in, leading up to a weekly/biweekly broadcasted Redline race that only people that placed well in the Yellowlines can join would be a sick setup.
Having that is the reason for my concern about metaslaving though, because if you try to hype up having a big premier exhibition race for all the best players in a highly customizable game and they all show up in the same rig it would be lame. That and I'm definitely not going to be the one in charge of figuring out what sort of rewards you'd want to give to the redline winners that makes them actually want to participate
Anonymous No.713227504
>>713227018
Legends is bloated with some fictional story (disregarding DEI bullshit), it's just tiresome. Nobody asked for it. Then when I discovered there is other "mode" which reminds of "classic grid" I got tired.
Haven't tried Autosports and 2019
Anonymous No.713227798
>>713227346
You can introduce some randomness into the stats so that you can't metaslave. They'll still be intuitive in what they do, say, the spoiler stabilizes your car and the missiles do missile things, but you won't know by how much until you test it, and the next week it'll all be completely different anyway. Find a way to kick dataminers in the balls (like Noita did, it's been a couple years and we still don't know what the secret of the cauldron is) and you'll eliminate the meta factor.
