I'm still curious about making win 7 work on a modern system. I'm not in the mood for fiddling with OS at the moment, but the next time I do a full format I'll probably look it up and/or make a dual boot with some linux distro.

Yeah, they initially planned to force an update that broke it, but the backlash made them reverse that and just say "When it doesn't work eventually, you have no reason to complain."
