They're all pretty similar, so unless you're looking for a particular feature or just really like the command line, I'd say just use Linux Mint since that's the most popular.

I mainly use my PC for browsing the internet and playing games, but I want to use it for programming C++ in the future. I have an overkill rig for that sort of thing though, R9 5900X and a RX 6900TX.

This happened when I reflashed my Mobo I had to first try activating my PC as if it was a laptop registered on the same account then try my actual desktop activation again for it to go through.

Sounds like your drive fucked up somewhere.

Mint or Arch. Unless you need something specific like driver or appliance, Wine and Proton solve most of issues.

If you fail already with trivial Windows problems you won't get a decent Linux kernel compiled.
You remind me of people who want to fly to Mars because they fail on Earth.

Yeah, any of them should be fine for those things. I'd say also take a look at Fedora or Manjaro to see which one looks the best to you

Fedora is surprisingly smooth out of the box lately, especially for gaming with all the Wayland/Plasma updates and rock-solid performance with AMD cards. Manjaro is decent if you want the Arch vibe without fully committing to rice hell, but sometimes package maintainers take naps. Give both a run in live mode, see which one's UI doesn't make your eyes bleed.
