I'm afraid so. The more time I spent with it the more I realized how shallow it is and not worth $80 at all. When you've seen the first few missions in free roam, you've seen them all. And your reward is just shitty stickers anyways. They could've had actual boss races take place there or have it be the way to unlock the new characters instead of kamek RNG shit, but no.
The intermissions are also ass hence why everyone votes for random to avoid them if they can. Terribly executed game. Just stick to CTGP-7 or 8 Deluxe

I have a ton of time in MK8 and I've yet to get tired of playing this game online. It's super fun.
I fell for the "hurrr all the intermission tracks are straight lines!' meme pre-release, but a lot of them are actually pretty cool if you look beyond the minimap.
If you like pure MK gameplay and aren't obsessed with superficial shit you'll have fun.
Also Air Riders comes out this year so us kart racing fans are eating good.

I have 80 hours already whereas MK8DX has 265 hours despite owning a launcher Switch, though I probably more hours logged on Wii U's MK8.
I say yes, I normally don't care about time trials but the short cuts and rail routes are fun to grind here and there, same with the free roaming.

I will now buy a switch 2 when they restock

Kinda crazy how when you're just hunting around for panels and peach medals you see so many cool little areas and paths in the courses, stuff that is completely unutilized when racing on them in the cups and rallys. If you like MK you will like this one. The rail/wall mechanics are difficult to pull off so you'll be practicing a lot in single player and optimizing paths. The single player challenges are fun to do, but you need to find them in the open world. If you are autistic that likes looking for hidden shit you will love the open world details, there are a shit ton of them. I wish the missions had their own menu though, but right now you need to find them.

Once I get Bananza I dont think I'll ever touch World again. Maybe try out some DLC if there ever is any.

Last night's MKW tournament here on 4chan was great fun.

It's great but I wish there was more thought put into the open world aspect. Burnout Paradise is over a decade old and figured out how to do fun emergent online stuff that this game should really have

Tracks are great
New mechanics are great, tricking and rails add variety and depth
Open world is great for its intended purpose (fuck around between races, learning basic mechanics)
Online and options are heavily flawed and limited
The fact there is no multiplayer mode that really takes advantage of the open world sucks too.

Add better options, change online races to not be 90% Intermission versions of tracks, and add some sort of new mode that takes advantage of just how open the world is (maybe go from A to B to C but those points change dynamically to anywhere in the open world and there are no limits on which direction you go (off road or tracks both fine). It would be god tier then, as it is now it's a good Mario Kart with a fun twist.

I like the game a lot, but it's hard to know if any game is worth 80 dollars. The new mechanics are awesome, and going for the harder paths on the fly is fucking awesome. I'll definetly get many more hours out of this game without even playing online.
BUT I don't it would be worth the price if I wasn't going to play it a shitton splitscreen with the homies.

It's alright. I'm glad I got the bundle and got it for cheaper.
Unless it gets serious content updates though I can't see myself jumping back in. A lot of the tracks are pretty forgettable.

It cost me 50€ since I got the bundle.
Don't feel buyers remorse since I feel I'm still enjoying the game, but it is lacking currently. I feel the single player adaptive difficulty is too noticeable for any single player modes other than Time Trials, to be worth playing.
Online is fun but I'm the kinda guy that enjoys Mario Kart bullshit online. 24 players at a time is a lot though and creates situations where the entire horde runs you over and leaves you behind, which I can see being frustrating to most.
