I think this game would have been better if the houses and shops were separate plots that merged into the other buildings in the towns naturally, instead of a bunch of shacks crammed together near some farmland. You pretty much have to ignore a few things at a time to make good use of your days. There's no time limit though so you're not penalized for going slow with any of the game's systems. If you rush the story you'll have more tools and characters available early, if you focus on relationship building you won't have to do it later, if you do a lot of farming and town management you'll get a lot of resources early.
