1404 and 1800 are the best, this is an objective trvth. I like 1503 because it's the first one I played, but it's actually not fun at all.

1404 is the best. 1602 is great but that's mostly nostalgia

Anno 1800 remains undefeated.
Had some fun with Worshippers of Cthulhu as well but replayability isn't as good on that one.

I forget, do I have to use ubislops launcher for these?

I tried the first four and actually liked 1602 the most, not sure why. Maybe the simple pixel graphics remind me of similar games from my childhood.
I've heard good things about 1800 but I'm just not going to buy a game that's tethered to the ubishit launcher.

The oldest ones are on GOG with no DRM, but on Steam all of them require the launcher.

These games lack the Pause function, don't they? If so why? It's obviously a deliberate design decision.

Took me a while to figure out what this thread was about. I was struggling to understand what any of this had to do with Evangelion.

From what I remember once you Pause you can't move the camera freely, build or give instructions like in other games. If you want to retain functionality your best option is to slow the flow of time to minimum but that's still real-time. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a while.

I think it's some sort of engine limitation. When I slow it down it feels like my inputs also get laggier. Apparently the next one will have active pause, though.

I always liked the future annos of 2070 and 2205.
I don't know, it's just the setting. I understand why people hate the combat in 2205 especially, but the moon setting and space station are great. I was surprised just how smooth it is switching between regions, too, zero load time. Did 1800 bring that back?
I kind of wish you could just build everything on the space station and not be restricted by the arbitrary size limitations requiring specialization. It made sense when the game was still well-populated and you could rely on trade from other players to fill deficits but as the population shrinks, it becomes less effective and being able to 100% the station can make up for that.
