What i expect from a remake is that they add quality of life UI improvements they didnt think of at the time or improve and restore technical functionalty (eg. make the game work on modern OS if needed).Changing content or artstyle/graphics is a tricky one as its easy to fuck it up. Adding brand new stuff is a hit and miss.

Some good remakes:
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition (and HD) is an obvious one, cant really say anyhting bad about it.
Baldurs Gate Enhanced Edition same as above.

Dark souls 2 and its rehash, some things are worse, some are better in the remake, but since the bar to cross is so low, its overall better than the original.

GTA5 - i think its remake included FPS mode wich is pretty cool.

Deus Ex: Human revolution - it toned down the yellow filter.

finished the whole thing recently and it's good. some arcs are worse, some characters are way better than the rest, but overall it's an enjoyable ride, mostly thanks to shaft.
i do think crab is the worst, hanekawa is up in the high tier, but i also ended up liking kanbaru way more than i expected to.

The character writing upsets me. I know all the themes that Nisio is going for, he's all about power and survival of the fittest and hierarchies etc etc but I still just can't agree with him at all. I can't see any of the characters as anything but props and objects that all revolve around Araragi and Crab, and elevate how they're just the greatest most moral people on the planet.
