Lies of P: Overture
how is that playthrough going, anon?
do you like it?

i've just beaten Lumacchio. pretty fun fight, he was kinda easy to stagger in phase 2 which was unexpected to me, i went into the fight thinking that i would just try to memorize attack patterns, but somehow managed to perfectly parry a lot of his attacks and stagger him over and over again until i won

Frozen Feast is still my favorite weapon, even including the DLC weapons (Bow is a close second though). I feel like I'm the only Frozen Feast enjoyer. It's really good despite its slow speed. I made it work even with the final boss. Anyone else use Frozen Feast?

why the fuck did they nerf it to hell now? first two times i played i was actually dreading the dlc cos of how tough it was and just finished my third pt of the dlc and you basically one shot all normal enemies like what the fuck is that all about? the bosses have def been nerfed too, and they changed it how you can access it at chapter 5 now instead of 9, man this shit blows

It was pretty enjoyable, but really frustrating at times. Apparently the latest patch reduces the difficulty somewhat, but I played before that and bosses hit like fucking trucks. Getting killed in two or three hits just wasn't fun, but I don't need to worry about that shit anymore. The final boss weapon is fucking stupid, but I'm happily using it alongside the bow.

Game is so boring because the basic enemies aren't interesting to fight. Most of them can be staggered to death and the one's that aren't have very obvious moves to dodge.

The game just doesn't do a good job encouraging you to push forward when so much of the content puts you to sleep. I still beat it but I was not impressed. I looked at the DLC and it seems to have the exact same issues, some of the bosses look cool but im not slogging through terrible level design and same-y boring enemies just to fight 2-3 cool bosses
Anonymous No.713269352
I got through most of the DLC before they patched it, up to the end of the shipwreck area, and i didnt find any boss excessively difficult (Markiona was a little exacting but also her attacks are very easy to parry once you learn them, so whatever)

This last guy is a prick though. The mix of delay attacks, quick attacks and two-hitters is getting me
Anonymous No.713269358 >>713269779
I don't get the people that say motivity is worse than technique. I played tech on my first playthrough and motivity is so much easier. Bosses take so much more damage, shorterning the fights, and it also has great stagger potential. It feels like easy mode. Bosses that took me like 20 tries with tech now dies in 1-2 tries

This is the biggest problem with the game imo. There's a lot of comparison to Bloodborne because of the aesthetic but they're sort of the opposite in this regard, attacks feel more like Sekiro with less ability to fight groups and basic enemies themselves don't really have compelling or complementary movesets. Usually you run up to one, combo it to death, run up to the next, and so on...

I hope for a sequel they make this aspect more interesting. I think the fights against large enemies and bosses are great but the minor enemies feel more like they exist for the player to wail on for some basic satisfaction between actual fights

The sequel needs to remove perfect parry. This game encourages you to perfect parry, especially against those red attacks, the fact that dodges suck and mandatory parry bosses like Arlecchino. The problem is that if you're decent at parrying, you realize theres no reason to even move in the game. Infact it's easier to parry if you just stand still and wait. Battles should be more about the area and spacing.

Parries should just be restricted to Fable Arts.

I still don't know if I'd be interested in future games from these dudes because they seem to be falling into the same pitfalls as other soulslikes devs where the only way they think to escalate the gameplay is half hour long combo strings peppered with delayed attacks.

Anonymous No.713271969

The dodge is good though. You can avoid many red attacks with spacing just by sprinting or dodging out of range. The tracking in LoP is actually not that strong. The same thing with combos from many bosses and normal enemies. Dodge around them and watch them whiff many of their swings. Dodging is safer and can create openings for attacks in exchange for losing the stagger/weapon break buildup of parries.

i did use it a couple of times.
it's not horrible, but the gimmick is very poorly thought out.
since it does high damage, 90% of normal enemies die by the time you reach 4 stacks, and the bosses will almost never let you hit them enough times for the increased swing speed to matter.
5s is way too short to lose all stacks, maybe if it was 5s to go down 1 level it could have been interesting

It was good. The zoo was the highlight.
I miss the gun pistol weapon (I used the soul like a dumbass) but I used the claws which were amazing.
I like thay they kept the intrecacies in terms of level design though in terms of aesthetics some of the areas like the underground labs were pretty generic.

I also liked that they gave us a not totally depressing ending like it was shaping up to be. Koreans make some depressing af movies and the last chapter area like it was gonna be a horror show with Arlechino live torturing Romeo in front of Lea. I'm glad we didn;t get to see that directly. Wish Carlo said something to her teacher though.

But the final dlc boss took me 112 tries, 7 hours it was legitimately the hardest fight I've done in one of these games since Malenia, I dunno if I'm just dumb or bad or what but he was just out of this world difficult for me. I'm sure if I used Lea it would've been easier but damn

Lies of P was shorter than I expected, I thought it would go farther with the collapsing Krat setting and that we would get more corrupted versions of early game bosses. It would have been disappointing but the DLC really makes up for that imo. I'm actually glad I waited this long to play the game after Overture launched as I feel I'm getting a more complete experience.

It seemed to me that there should have been more story and plot in the game, but due to the narrative style adopted in soulslikes, they can't present the plot properly, and in the end, all the characters seem to be developed, but somehow alienated from the game world.

When the credits roll, you can see how the characters spend time, have fun, and interact, but in the game, they are just statues that come to the hub and stand in their spots until the end of the game.

I think the biggest fault for me in Lies of P isn't its enemies but how the levels are designed. I don't mind if it's linear, I want them to be visually interesting, and the base game just doesn't have that. Chapter 10 is easily the biggest offender, as its length came across as needless padding. It feels like the devs are finally finding their stride in the level design during the DLC because the first two (Zoo & Carnival) are easily the best levels in the game for me.

BUT, dorothy is clearly very young in the glimpse we got, id say around 9 or 10, and unless theyre gunning for the onirism audience i doubt we would play as her in that state, so her game will likely follow a timeskip after shes gotten older, and thus is more likely to have moved somewhere else. i personally hope the next game has little to nothing to do with krat or puppets outside of like a character cameo or a secret bossfight. tbdesu

The level design is terrible but boring enemy design is a part of that. I haven't played the DLC but watched some people play and it's not any different.

The game does a bad job of helping you figure out which path moves forward and which is a side path.
Most side paths are complete dead ends, so you just turn around and run all the way back, with the items gain typically being nothing of value.
The game rarely has neat shortcuts or ones that serve any use besides maybe backtracking if you missed something
Again the majority of the game are just enemies in a hallway with nothing else going on besides either enemies shooting projectiles at you or enemies waiting to gank you. Very few times they do something different and when they do, it's usually some gimmick we've already seen before like a shitty poison swamp, an enemy from a tower shooting a really big projectile at you, fucking rolling boulders, etc and again the majority of the enemies are really basic ones that can just be staggered. The game does not really trust the player to deal with tougher enemies most of the time, if they do it's an enemy either isolated or puts the easy enemies in front giving you plenty of time to kill them before dealing with the slightly tougher guys and then those tougher guys die really easy to dodging basic combos into backstab or big punish damage.

It's just not good, it's not fun and it's just a shame. I think the weapon assembly system is REALLY cool but when I thought about doing NG+, I just thought about how no matter what cool stuff I put together it's not really gonna feel any different because i'll just very easily mash through the majority of the content and just not have many opportunities to try my weapons out against enemies that can kind of put up a fight.

Alchemist Isle is the worst level by far, the only part I like is being able to look back on the beach and see how high you progressed, but most of those views are on the final stretch to simon within 10 minutes of each other rather than spread out
DLC Lab is pretty shit too but it's far shorter

Arlecchino was ridiculous. Not quite as oppressive as Consort Radahn but up there with Ludwig the Accursed.
And yes, I used the auto parry grindstone for his Malenia LARP in Phase 2 and I'm not sorry about it.

Yeah I like it. LoP is pretty dissapointing in that no matter where you go every corpse just has ergo or random literal trash like pipes or saw blades
It's still one of my favourites in the genre, but this is an obvious area for improvement that I expect in Oz's game now that they have experience
The LotF shill is still retarded

UE4 is an extremely mature engine at this point. Also Korea is top tier when it comes to combat animations. The director of Expedition 33 talks about it where he said that he went out of his way to message 200 different Korean animators for his game because no one in Europe does that sort of combat animations.
