7th generation of consoles was the golden age of gaming and I'm tired of millennials who pretend it's not

>xbox 360
rrod, some good games, online subscription was a joke and everyone knew it, plenty of slop and marketing
>wii
absolutely no
>ps3
overpriced, had no games
>psp
overpriced, had no games
>ds
marketed to kids, did a big reverse with that decision on the 3ds in time to get some decent games. still too late and handhelds got buried graveyard dead as a result.

far better than where we are now but not the golden age by a long shot, beginning of the dark ages

4-6th Gen was the golden age, but 7th was the last Gen where each console had a solid library of exclusives and offered distinct experiences from one another

It was the start of the downfall, and had many trends that would ruin the medium as a whole.
That said, it wasn't all bad, and had some games worth remembering

Consoles in order
DS > PSP > Early 360 >> Late PS3 >>Wii >>>Early PS3>>>>>Late 360

I'm currently developing an AI that will scan every 4chan thread I go into so that I don't have to read retarded posts like this ever again.
Enjoy your five minutes of fame while it lasts fucktard.

the handhelds sure but the home consoles were all different flavors of shit that set the stage for everything bad about 8th and 9th gen

Based take. 7th gen was peak innovation before the suits fully took control. You had stuff like Bioshock blowing minds, Mass Effect starting strong, Demon's Souls basically forging its own genre, and even indies like Braid and Limbo getting attention. Yeah, the monetization rot started here, but back then it was still mostly backend crap you could ignore. Every console had a different identity too — not the homogenized PC clones we have now.

make it 6th-7th gen
early 7th gen they kept doing the same shit from 6th gen
>>713279639
DeS alone mogs any single game you can think of from the ps2 library
besides 99% of the ps2 library is trash and it's the same 10-15 usual suspets like ico and sotc being parroted over and over again by people who didn't even play them
>>713279968
nope
>midnight launch
was there, gone
>physical games
was there, soon to be gone
>games were pretty much complete at launch
nice to have patches but it's not critical, games 100% playable off disc
>backwards compatibility
gone
>new IPs month after mont
gone
>everyone having mics and talking in online games
gone and killed by discord
>free online
gone

while I agree on some things like microtransactions, DLCs (as if they didn't ever make them before as standalone physical releases) most of the trends you think about didn't really start until late 7th-early 8th gen

I will just use an english patch

>before the suits fully took control
what most people fail to realize is that the suits were there all along, gaming was already more than mainstream with ps1 selling more than 100mil+ units
money doesn't grow out of thin air but there's a massive difference between investing 1-50mil for a ps1-ps3 game and $500mil+ for a ps5 game, there's literally no room for error in this case while the former approach still allowed some publishers to make experimental shit that most likely flopped and is now remembered fondly
you will never experience XBL arcade tier games ever again because nobody wants to risk making them

it's enough to look at the output of publishers like rockstar and naughty dog, like you can clearly see when all of it dowhnill, a cadence like in the 2000s-early 2010s is pretty impossible today with games like gta6 costing up to $1bil

cottage industry transitioned to mainstream hollywood appeal. dev teams went from 10s of people to 100s
>ps1 selling 100 mil units
lifetime sales aren't a great indicator, day 1 sales were 100k units for the PS1, for the 360 they had 300k units for the EU and people complained of shortages, day 1 sales for the PS4 were 1 million units

sony, microsoft etc were already huge companies but they had to be convinced to give gaming a shot
