I got into yakuza 0 expecting free roam japanaese gta beat em up essentially and I got a soap opera with cutscenes every 5 seconds
I still liked the beat em up sections tho, I will keep playing other games in the series so I will play kiwami 1 next

Honestly 7 is the first Yakuza game that I'm having trouble getting into. I don't even dislike turn based combat the story and characters aren't doing it for me.

If this game is just in the two time periods with one guy instead of being an immortal being as the protagonist between 1915 and 2015 (the century) I will be disappointed. The rare supernatural stuff in the series was always interesting.

if you want to argue the only value in a yakuza game is the main story (why the fuck?), the ps2 games are still better than the remakes that fuck up the animation and lighting in the cutscenes and interrupt your main story with needless gameplay gimmick additions
