I haven't played any of the XIII games. FFXIII looked awful, and I never cared to try it. Same with FFXV. FFXVI is on my to do list, but I worry it'll also feel heavily on rails with more flash than gameplay.

FFX is a shitty game if you play anything beyond sprinting to the end. All of the extra content in FFX that makes it a 100-120h game is fucking trash and extremely shallow and boring.

Lightning is a good character. She is not the reason FFXIII is garbage.

It's not that at all, otherwise people would hate TWEWY or Persona 4 as well. Game has nice graphics, OST and combat. Story is fine despite the Datalog holding crucial info. The structure of the game sucks, it's on rails and you can't even go to any town in Cocoon. Or backtrack.

It is truly amazing how the second the merger happened, every FF game's story (and most of the game itself) became terrible.

Compare the start of FFXIII to the start of VII or IX for example in how one group excites you for whats to come, and the other makes you want to uninstall the game and get a refund.

I liked using monsters in battle but the way to build them was the most randomly guide heavy thing ever. You either have a guide that tells you exactly what to do or your monster will just not be better than basic. I very much remember half the top tier monsters requiring skills that you could only get from a monster that spawns in a single spot in the final area before the final boss and it only spawns once before a gate reset.
