After playing through a good bit of Elden Ring as my first Souls game and finding it a lot easier than a lot of people make it out to be, I've come to a realization.
Souls games are only hard if you're a turbo brainlet who can't into rpgs or rhythm games.
You don't even have to get that good because at the end of the day the numbers are doing most of the heavy lifting.

tldr, Dark Souls isn't hard you just have a smooth game.

Elden Ring is the hardest souls game. I came to Souls for slow methodical gameplay, wher your shield and armor actually matter, not to roll every other second like some schizophrenic ninja.

I wouldn't know, the only other Souls game I've put time into is 3 and the farthest I've gotten is the Dragon in the area after Gundyr

just beating elden ring isnt bad but some of the optional bosses are insane (malenia, radahn if you count DLC as optional)
demons souls (hardest levels) and sekiro (hardest bosses) are probably the hardest ones

I feel like everyone misses why it was considered hard in the first place, in dark souls 1 (the pre patch version I played) you could very easily fuck yourself over so hard that you would have to restart the whole game, I remember getting to ash lake without the lord vessel and couldn't escape due to curse stacking at the time, the patches and the future games basically made it a lot more easier

elden ring is a much more accessible game than the previous souls games. in DaS 1 in particular there were many things you could unintentionally do that would make your life very difficult. elden ring trivialized exploration and the 'adventure' aspect of the game while making bosses more action-heavy

Yeah pretty much, why do you think "git gud" was the standard advice? You just need to not be retarded and get some experience.
Older games are so easy compared to ER, going back feels like playing on game journalist mode.

I've killed Godrick, Rennala, Radahn, a ton of other bosses, and I just beat the twin Tree Sentinels in Leyendell.
