I know Destiny 1 had it a bit at the start, where that was something Bungie talked about that being a premise for the visual designs in one of their GDC talks.

timberborn has beavers inheriting the earth after human extinction like splatoon. though it doesnt come up very often other than the fact that you harvest iron from long abandoned human structures. its definitely something they should lean in to a little more.
