Actually I played "Rail of Mobius" not to long ago and thought it was pretty good for a short VN, never gets mentioned here. Has a time travel plot so it has some similarities with Steins Gate though much shorter and simpler overall. Doesn't have much as far as routes and has 3 endings but thought the story was decent.

It's much more detailed and Faris' route was completely cut from the anime.
The anime also made a bunch of retarded changes on top of the cuts, so Suzuha is practically a completely different character in the VN compared to the anime, Okabe's dine & dash thing is a complete invention of the anime, 90% of Moeka's scenes prior to the raid were cut entirely so it makes no sense that anyone trusted her in the anime, and the way the raid plays out in the anime is completely different to the VN as well.
That's as much as I can say because I was so disgusted by how badly done the raid scene was in the anime I stopped watching it there. Though I do also know that a certain scene about Nae was also cut from the anime and the way things played out with the old man was changed too.

it would've been cool if steins;gate (or any of the SciAdv vns) had more of a focus on science. some scenes in the lab with kurisu,, doing stained microscopy on jellified banana or doing data forensics on old BBS posts to find clues or something.

there's this characters who's a prodigy scientist and you basically just eat potato chips with her, why no science

man this game is peak 2000s. it has everything that was cool for weebs from that era. hacking, cosplay, maid cafes, card games, cern, 4chan, gatcha shit, john titor, people worrying about the LHC creating a black hole. Those were all real things in the nerdy online culture at the time. I’m sure it’s cringe if you’re not an otaku, but holy fuck they captured the culture of that period perfectly. It’s weird to me it lasted so long. It’s great for capturing that period of time. But does it still connect with anyone today?

Yeah, In one of the routes Okabe couldn't figure his way out of it so he kept redoing the last Week?/Day? With his friends hundreds of times. He went a little insane and started doing fucked up shit cause he knew he could undo it. Like pushing Daru off a bridge and having his way with the girls. But when he threw himself onto Suzuha she could see in his eyes that he's been looping and talked him back into sanity. While it does happen, the VN doesn't show the fucked up shit, just Okabe narrating his loops then you see his attempt on Suzu before moving on.

Sure, a lot of what Steins;Gate covers and uses is still relevant and popular now but it still does a fantastic job of capturing late 00s internet / nerd culture. I feel like some zoomers tend to mindlessly shit on it now because they don't have a connection to that era like millennials and gen x do.
