>2001 RPG by Tim Cain and Fallout 1 crew "Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magic Obscura" has had several failed sequels and failed sequel pitches by Obsidian/Inxile to Activision over the years, IP assumed dead and locked up by Activision/Blizzard forever
>Last year an artist named Joel Carlson uploaded a portfolio of art claiming an Arcanum mobile game "for ages 10+" was being developed in the 2020's https://joelcarlson.artstation.com/projects/QzQNkl

>Looks like a cartoony discworld game, has teenage protagonists, whimsical reimagining of Arcanum cleansed of all the M-rated elements like race-science, phrenology, victorian era social issues like misogyny and classism/racism. Protagonists are a teen wizard boy and teen inventor girl who are mentored by your now-elderly companion from Arcanum 1, Virgil, who is now a generic gandalf figure
>the big bad from the first game who absolutely 100% died forever, Kerghan the necromancer turned death-god, is retconned from a dark cloaked ominous figure into a cartoony evil slavering shadow demon with a scythe, who has somehow returned just like Disney Palpatine to end all life on arcanum, again
>entire game cancelled by the grace of god somehow
>probably because it's a 20 year old IP exclusively remembered by cRPG grognards and would just get nonstop hate and no new fans, if it was mobile game it would have MTX out the ass and not enough pull in the age of Baldurs Gate 3

Why did all these edgy nerds who had all these cool ass ideas become so faggy? We used to get cool shit like fallout 1 where npcs would shit talk you and you could get kill kids. Now we can hardly even get a chance to make evil choices in video games.

We could have said the same about follout 3 when bethesda first bought it. Now it is a household name and has pretty well known tv show. I think arcanum could have seen the same love if they actually let people do something with it.

Good.
Now hijacking this thread - is the New Arc Line good? I tried playing the demo a year ago or so, but it ran like shit so I dropped it. Game seemed to be trying to be Arcanum 2, now I'm interested whether they have something interesting to offer.

Well I was thinking more of how it compares to Arcanum in terms of story, companions, RPG elements and so on (as high of a mountain that is to climb), rather than just performance
