How do you do it? How do you not care about achievements?
I want to try new games, but I can't shake this feeling that the game I already have are not finished without the achievements. My brain just won't let me let it go. I know they're glitzed up DRM, but I can't stop. I have at least half of them on Civ5, and I hate Civ5.

50% achievements is good enough for me

most achievements are obvious bugperson timesinks and impossible to achieve with an organic playthrough

I'm content if I get as many as possible. I do achievement hunt and try to 100% a ton of games to the point of obsession, but my love of games allows me to move on and experience the next thing. I do regularly return to games just to get achievements, I don't just drop them forever.

I grew up with Wii so I never fell for that bullshit. Getting achievements on steam is just if I want a little challenge and I'm bored.

IF I really like the game AND the achievement is something organic to the gameplay or that is something I actually want to achieve myself (for example, defeat this level without taking damage, get all the weapons, etc.), I do try to get all achievements, otherwise I don't care much.
>>713315789
This also works

I only get all achievements if A) I like the game enough and B) the achievements aren't too batshit insane to get. Recently I've developed a new strategy for dealing with my achievement autism: I try to get as many of them as possible on the first playthrough, and if I decide I want to 100% the game, I make plans to come back to it later after playing whatever other new games I've bought recently. I've also realized that if the achievements ARE too aids, then maybe it's an okay compromise to just get as many as possible and potentially come back to it later in the future.

Yep, grew up a pirate PCchad and nintendochad and never really cared about cheevos or whatever. If I enjoy a game I'll play it more. If I stop having fun I drop the game. It really can't get any more simple than that.

By realizing that all achievements are made by the following process
>1 month to release
>lowest paid, most overworked guy gets "make 40 achievements" thrown on his plate
>knocks out a dozen easy with "beat level 1/2/3/ect"
>if he's particularly crunched makes another dozen "beat level 1/2/3/ect on legendary difficulty"
>actually has to think of others
>most will be genre-standard: get 1,000 headshots/1 million gold/fully upgrade weapon
>tiny minority will be unique to game mechanics
Whenever you think of achievements, remember you're obsessing over some wagies busy work
Anonymous No.713316350
I just lose interest in a game once I feel I had enough of it and seen all it has to offer, which is usually after a full playthrough. And I see shit like package hunting in GTA to be fake content for especially dedicated.

I care a little bit about cheevos but if there are any that are a pain in the arse or require a level of practice that I'm not willing to put in then that little bit of caring goes straight out the window

Mental maturity? I don't know.
I play videogames to have fun. If you have more fun shooting for achievements then all the more power to you, but otherwise, it's literally just retarded autism.

I have considered this mindset, of being selective, but it' s like missing teeth in a smile, or having a deck of cards that are different sizes. It feels off.

I am cool with quitting early if I'm bored, I used to be even better at it, but a few times I got locked into playing a game I hated for the achievements. I feel this way, like I've been played, and I end up never buying from the devs again. I've even avoided games with online achievements just to avoid feeling so unfinished by it.

Achievements either make me feel like a toddler being congratulated for simple tasks, or some autist who spends way too much time on a single game. The worst part is they don't actually reward you anything. They don't add to the story. You don't even get cool artwork from the dev anymore. There's no reason to do them.

Make your OCD work for you instead of against you.
Example: Instead of trying to get all the achievements, plot out how to get the least amount of achievements.

That takes me back. I got all the flags in the first one and swore I'd never do that again, and sure enough I got everything in AC2, even the one with the missable hang glider shit. I haven't enjoyed hat series since. I literally can't care about those games anymore, and it sucks because Black Flag looks insane (and I wanted a good pirate game for ages)
