Is there a name for this effect where a mysterious lore gets over-expanded to the point where the initial intrigue gets utterly crushed by the amount of unnecessary detail and exposition we get? COD zombies seems to have suffered the same fate.

FNaF was always better when the security guard was a player proxy who had to piece together the story just as we had. And if 4 was just retconned to be the surreal nightmare of a witness to the Bite of '87 (no need for two Bites), it makes a nice full circle without giving too much detail away to ruin the lingering mystery.
