>PS5 has sold 77 million units
>Xbox Series S/X over 30 million units
>Switch 2 has already sold 3.5 million units in less than a month
>Switch 1 has sold 152 million units

Look, my only system right now is a brand new gaming laptop with an rtx 4070 I bought for $500 off a college dropout last month, and I've only played on PC since 2014 - consoles are not dead. Far from it. They are declining overall, but they are not dead.

This will probably be the final console generation, however. PS6 will be the end. But we're not done yet.

We've been saying that for two generations now. Modern games are getting so bloated/poor performing that it's making them push more hardware down our throat in the form of another console gen soon to come.

I realized the worthlessness of consoles towards the end of 7th gen. Everything cool in regards to multiplayer was happening on PC. Or just weird obscure games in general.

7th generation killed them because it was so shit. Thankfully, Nintendo and Valve are here to save it, Switch 2 and Steam Deck 2 will be king.

They are. Normal people buy and play them and they dont show up where you are.
Also when comparing numbers they always forget Nintendo, which destroys the "no console" narative.

You think consoles aren't popular anymore because the Xbox is dead and because the PlayStation is dying but the Switch 2 exist and will keep it alive and kicking. PC has the Steam Deck 2 when that comes.

they are ridiculously popular because people do not want to go to the far greater expense and moderately greater difficulty of buying and/or putting together a PC

they are also shortsighted dimwits who don't understand the importance of being able to do basically whatever you want any time no questions asked

a console is locked down. it is what it is and nothing else. it will run a game, and just a game, at one time. nowadays, you might get discord too. on PC, i can run
>dedicated server
>music
>game
>youtube
>browser
>fucking freecad if i wanted to for some reason
and no one can tell me i can't. we're making steps in the right direction allowing gaben a slice of the console pie, but it's not enough, and hopefully xbox takes the lead in making consoles into low end prebuilts. it's all basically a PC internally anyway, we're past the days of cartridges and purpose built roms, consoles have basically been gimped PCs internally since ps4/xb1.

no, switch is an arm tablet internally. even that is just generic ass hardware repurposed. yeah, it's locked down way harder than an xbox or playstation, but it's still basically a tablet soc with some frills and a custom not-quite-sd-card slot for game key cards.

But they are, most people I know have one and often as a sidepiece. Truth is that most people who own expensive pc, also own expensive peripherals, screens, sound, etc. An additional 500 bucks or opting out for a bundled deal for any of those peripherals doesn't make a lot of difference. A console is cheaper than any of my speaker setups (surround / stereo) cheaper than my tvs, cheaper than my amps, cheaper than my gfx card and cheaper than my cpu+mobo. And if you look at it from the other end of the spectrum you get what amounts to be a mininpc in a branded shell that for the asking price performs well enough. I don't see them going away as long as they can provide almost the same experience for 1/4 of the entry price. Especially since they recently hit 60fps with decent gfx again.

Xbox is dead, PlayStation is dying, consoles aren't PCs but Microsoft and Sony sure as hell want to treat them like they are so they better prepare for a hurting starting with 10th generation. Microsoft's Xbox "console-on-a-chip" strategy is dead on arrival.

It's really funny watching the denial in threads like these.
It's when you realise that all the PCpoors are now priced out of upgrading their computers and with consoles becoming more powerful with games having ray tracing and PSSR they're in a full on panic.
What are you going to do PCfags? Are you going to pony up for $1k GPUs and $400 CPUs just to play at the same level as a Pro or PS6 console which you can pick up for $700?

As a pc fag I think half decent consoles are great because getting a console to delay upgrading your rig that entered its toaster phase is a good alternative if you don't want to support shitty hardware gens that are also overpriced. Don't see how I'm losing by having more choice. Same for games prices, if you have pc and console you can sometimes save money by getting a console copy since physicals are often the first to drop in price and the amount of cheap 3rd world reseller keys gone down by a lot.

Consoles made sense when they were specialized hardware.
There is no reason to buy a locked-down x86 NPC with bargain bin components for everything that isn't relevant to producing a good screenshoot.
