Double Dash!! was an incredibly well-designed and cohesive game. Even the first track isn't some boring dogshit like later games. Even Baby Park was designed explicitly for the item mechanics of this game. The game just has really slippery controls, pick a character with good handling or acceleration. The real problem is the AI is complete cheating dogshit. Game is fine in time trials but holy fuck is GP not fun in 1.

World needs a proper 3 lap mode and a 12 player mode. The fundamentals are there for a top tier MK.

World is the worst mario kart yet. Going straights only for 85% and there is no element of skill involved with 24 people, at some point you will definitely get fucked over gard. Mario kart was about drifting and there are barely any corners to drift (which also feels much worse than mk8 btw). They really wanted the casual 1 time party players to have the same chance to win. Witbessed it first hand with my GF who to this day does not compute the concept of drifting se she constantly fucks up and falls down on corners. Well, not an issue if you have no corners but 10 times the items anymore.
Do not get me started on the fucning rails. This might be the worst MK.

Sounds like a skill issue. If you know what you're doing you can stay in the top 8 easily, especially in the intermission tracks because of the gigantic shortcuts across fields. If (when) you do get extra fucked and end up in 16-24th place you should be proficient enough with using items to make your way back to the front quickly.

Rails are helpful too. A quick charge jump on and right back off gives you an advantage, and you can find ways to mitigate the charge jump slow down with boost pads or food/mushrooms. You can also use a boost item while grinding to negate the grind slow down, and then you can build up to the stage 2/3 boost while safely advancing. It's all about optimizing your line while finding advantages for yourself. And of course balancing the risk/reward of holding an item to use it strategically or using it right away before it gets taken away by lightning or boo.

World haters are just mad that they can't play it exactly like 8. I played that game for thousands of hours I'm good on it

I think MK 64 is mid by modern standards only because the AI literally cheats. Whenever you start to pull ahead in first, the second-place racer will speed up super fast to get right behind you

Okay for starters, no, it absolutely does not have better tracks. It has a couple standouts, but most of it is unremarkable, simple shit. 64 blew it the fuck out back in the day, which is why it's more fondly remembered despite selling way less.

Second, playing GP in Super is a fucking nightmare. Some of the worst rubberbanding in ANY racing game that's not shovelware trash and braindead AI that cheats incessantly. There's no fucking reason to play Grand Prix in Super, especially when Super Circuit exists.

It's a Time Trial / VS game. I refuse to believe anyone completed that dogshit in 150cc and honestly thinks it's better than any other Mario Kart.

Its so frustrating how barely anything in the first rounds matters. However it is especially frustrating when you get chain hit and drop from the front to the back from multiple hits right infront of the finish line because guess what. These guys (and anyone else itt who said it) are correct. The game will retain a certain segment of little Timmies in the playerbase and of course a segment of supersweats who master every ridiculously jank looking trick/jump/grind shortcut. But the middle (and by far largest) part of the playerbase will fade away quick because it's not fun for them to wreck little Timmies and it's also not fun for them to get raped every race by someone who spent 50 hours labbing every shortcut. We've seen this already with games like CTR.

It is kinda comfy to drive around in the world though. I boot it up to do an hour or so of that every few days now that I 3 starred every GP and knockout tour (people will still accuse me of not owning the game though).

Are the badged bot CPUs in Tour or the regular 150cc CPUs in World worse? I’ve seen a lot of complaints that World’s CPUs at higher CCs are just as bad as Tour’s badged bots
