Yeah. Just going in order of release up until Fnaf 4 is a good way to start, but from there is when convoluted continuity and timelines start to creep in. A workaholic named Edwin Murray marries his co-worker Fiona and has a son named David. The pair make costumes and characters together, but Edwin is so deep into his work that he neglects his family. Fiona dies in a fire when David is just 2 and Edwin can't handle it, so creates a program to mimic her behavior and raise David, this is M1. Edwin continues to neglect his son but his work stops satisfying him because his clients, namely Fazbear Entertainment, aren't fans of the designs his wife originally made for them. He then creates M2, an endoskeleton that has the same mimicking abilities, this time to entertain David. But on David's 5th birthday, he's hit by a car and dies. While Edwin is grieving, M2 starts to mimic David's old behaviors. This pisses Edwin off. so he beats M2 to a pulp and leaves it to rust away, which in turn teaches the Mimic violence. Later, Fazbear cancels it's contract with Edwin and takes many of his employees. Again he is enraged but there's nothing he can do, so has to basically sell his company to them. Sometime later, the Mimic has rebuilt itself, and it uses it's new body to break into Edwin's house and blow him up, taunting Edwin as he dies of blood loss. With Edwin dead, Fazbear sends the player character to retrieve the assets they now own.

He said there were other attempts but only M1/M2 were succesful.
The one we see in Ruin is the same endo, except with it repairing itself over the years from damage/decay.

Truthfully I would never recommend such a thing since the lore/time period each game focuses on is usually detached from the place of the game in the literal timeline.

For example FNAF 4 focuses on the next events after Mimic, but its actual placement is up for debate. FNAF 3 is super super late in the timeline but focuses on events before even Sister Location

A secret room in Security Breach. Full of post it notes all over the place with scribbles and chicken scratch, like someone or something trying to learn how to draw or communicate. Gregory being a Mimic would at least explain why he's able to push Glamrock Chica like that. If Roxy was able to hold the Mimic off for a bit, and Mimic is shown to have obscenely superhuman strength as seen in SOTM several times, and we assume Roxy and Chica to be of the same "material quality", then in order for Greg's push to not immediately bounce back on him he'd have to be around Mimic strength.
