>kittens
>FUCKING KITTENS
What the FUCK were they thinking? Part of the appeal of KSP was that kerbals looked dumb and like nothing on Earth so you didn't have any prior feelings towards them. What do kittens have to do with space? It would just make me feel bad when I crash a capsule filled with a kitten crew into the Moon for the 11th time in a row at orbital speeds. They should've gone with tardigrades instead.

It will be THE spaceflight simulator. Seemless orbit transitions, easy modding, immersive graphical effects, detailed terrain, high focus on performance, base building (possibly). They're putting a lot of effort into closely simulating the actual solar system so that when they make their custom planetary system everything is scientifically accurate and concievable. I'm dying to play the alpha no matter how unfinished and buggy it is.

I was wrong. I don't think there are any actual KSP devs, rather a handful of KSP modders. They seem very talented from what I've seen, from atmospheric simulations to movement and orbital mechanics and terrain handling and optimisation.

It's an AI generated fan image. The game doesn't have any real art yet, it's all placeholder while they develop the engine and other backend/mechanical stuff. The final game won't be set in the real solar system.

They post lots of dev updates on discord, but various people repost them on youtube.

It's worth mentioning that one of the reasons they landed on kittens is that they DO want you to feel some attachment to your crew instead of them being disposable lemmings.
Also, anthropomorphic kittens are fairly easy to animate in regards to how they interact with human technology like suits, ladders, seats, tools, etc. Things like tardigrades or birds are a lot harder to do.

There are some significant differences in KSPs system. For one it's 1/10th scale which makes everything easier, and several bodies are obviously tailored for gameplay, such as Minmus, Laythe, or Gilly.

Also, having a fictional system provides more opportunity for exploration and discovery on your first playthrough.

I never said ksp was perfect either and the weakest part of the game was planet exploration
the most interesting planets in ksp were entirely made up and had interesting challenges, like laythe or eve
if you make a 1:1 scale of earth you can't even SSTO out of it reliably without introducing sci-fi engines to begin with
venus could be interesting if they play around with wind
mercury could be interesting if they play around with heat
3 gas giants in a row are not interesting

I’m not looking for “interesting.” I want to live out my fantasy of building a base on Mars - watching the sun rise and set just like it would in reality, exploring terrain that closely mirrors the actual Martian surface, and watching Phobos eclipse Deimos from the ground. Imagine sending your kittens on EVAs across Valles Marineris, how cool would that be?

Or setting up a colony on the shores of Kraken Mare and building a massive city on Titan, just because you can. Or a floating city in the clouds of Venus, like the ones that always come up in serious discussions about Venus colonisation. That’s the kind of immersion I’m after.

A fictional star system at half scale might be fun for some, but it kills the appeal for me. I can’t get into a setting that’s just the dev’s half-baked worldbuilding, especially when it isn’t even remotely grounded in science. And SSTOs from Earth, really? Earth is for giant, multi-stage rockets. Save the SSTOs for the Moon and other low escape bodies.

Whenever I hear/read "KSA"
