It's Ghost of Tsushima if it had good combat and encounter design. It does a bit worse in every other field however. But if you're a gameplay chad it's the better choice.

NTA but if you did like Nioh 2 I'd say you'll probably enjoy that one as well, gameplay feels like an upgrade. Well, maybe more of a sidegrade, but in a good way. Just be warned enemy variety is a bit lackluster since it's grounded in reality this time, so no yokais. Only human enemies but they have better variety than the ones in Nioh.

It's parry slop with a mid 2013 open world, it's only redeeming quality is that there's alot of styles but it doesn't save it since the gameplay is so prescriptive

Playing it right now, pretty good. Tons of personality. Though I love nioh 2 with some 500 hours in that and another 200 in sop. I'm on a 5070 ti and it runs really well for me but it seems to be very poorly optimized from other people's experiences. The combat system is pretty interesting but very closely built around their parrying system. The stance system is kinda still here from nioh but there's 45 or so different stances divided into 3 distinct types across 9 weapons with their own movesets for each weapon. Lots to experiment with though I still think nioh 2's is best.

This game seems to pull inspiration from just about every open world game in terms of mechanics. I personally hate anything open world but it's tolerable

I liked it but partly because I find the specific time period it's set in interesting, you get a million samurai games every year but hardly any when this is set in (Yakuza Ishin's the only other big one I'm aware of, I'm not a big fan of those games though)
It's fun but feels like it didn't need to be open world, combat feels a bit tamer than Nioh but you can have fun with it still

It only really gets "hard" rifts onwards and that's because of how much it relies on you maxing job levels and using high level equipment. Swapping jobs mid rift to jobs you haven't levelled to level 100 minimum is a death sentence with you getting one shotted by goblins not because you're bad but because of level disparity. It's an annoying part of sop that has it feeling either too hard or too easy through no fault of your own. Still great though

No, I'm playing right now. I'm fairly early on so maybe that's it but so far it's just permanently clearing small camps and main missions don't have that many enemies

There's a demo on ps5, the game doesn't really change from hour one to hour 100 so it'll give you a good idea of what to expect

As someone that liked Nioh 2 a lot, I'd say it's a downgrade but still alright.
The combat gameplay felt dumbed-down and overly parry-focused, but there are people who can make it work better from what I've seen. I feel like the focus on the parry took away a lot of positioning and attack timing aspects you could have done in Nioh.
The open world feels pretty empty at times, but some locations are nice. The collectibles feel a bit too forced. It doesn't have the aesthetic factor that Ghost of Tsushima had, but I like some locations, especially in Kyoto.
With the way I play open-world games, I also ended up overleveling pretty hard and the game felt pretty easy due to that. The only parts that felt challenging were on NG+ and trying to get good scores on some Dojo challenges. I'm not a particularly skilled gamer, and the only thing I failed to do was Eternal Night.
The story sucks. It pretends to give you choice, but then bluntly forces you into pseudo-neutrality that doesn't make sense.

gameplay is arguably better than nioh in that you have multiple weapon styles to switch between with 3 attacks each, and sub weapons to weave in like the pistol/shuriken. But build crafting is much less involved and theres actually not that many loot drops oddly. I really like the setting, but the open world fatigue does set in. Or rather just general game bloat, but I felt nioh 2 was also bloated and havent finished either. I do wanna get back to it though

The difference between max settings and lowest settings is very minimal. As I said it's so bad, there's 0 optimization. They haven't fixed it at all since I was playing. You should check out the patch notes they're a joke

Combat is better than Nioh 2. Works fine on my machine since I'm not a poor turd worlder. I wish it had NG+ on the same level as Nioh, but there's only two new sets and that's about it.

The issue is that there are a gozillion enemies, it takes a lot of time to master one, some animations are also shit, sometimes you can't tell if you're being too early or late, there's a lot of trial and error involved. Most styles have 9/60 parry frames, it's kind of bullshit, should've been at least 15.

Story is terrible. I couldn't give less of a shit about Japanese Les Miserables. But the kino with your Twin was fantastic. I loved the traversal. Grappling, Gliding, Horse-back riding. Good gameplay.

A pretty fun game, that is maybe a little bloated. Combat is solid, quests are sorta dull, open world is meh, but it has a lot of charm throughout. Plus to way the costumes work is actually really nice being able to mix and match.

My only complaint is the enemy hyper armor. You can be absolutely styling on a nigga and the game will step in and say "uh uh uhh, now they get a turn." It's clearly just a lazy way to prevent stun locking, which ultimately doesn't make for fun combat especially when parry windows are inconsistent.

It's a simplified open world nioh 2 with a parry mechanic.
The mechanic itself is pretty well executed all in all, but it doesn't make up for all the semplification going on in the combat, secondary skills (magic, ninjutsu, items), gear, loot, builds, etc.
Everything not combat related is mid to ass. It also manages to be really easy in spite of cheating bosses, which feels cheap and unsatisfying.
All in all it's worth a playthrough but don't expect to like it enough to run it five times in a row like Nioh, you'll get bored an hour into ng+.
