It's just good old fun with lots of grind
It's like playing a slow cs but snipers only
Windblown would be my second pick.

>>713364201 (OP)The Sims on Gamecube. The nostalgia was sublime and the game is fun when you actually play it. (and not just cheat money to build)
final fantasy crystal chronicles
really fucking good SRPG with autistically deep character building. Even after beating the game I sank another 100hrs into it just doing PVP and doing experimental builds.

biacna is very close second
Rivals of Aether 2
>whyIt's basically Project M but not yoked to daddy Nintendo. It's cheap, DLC characters are free, there's enough account- and character-based progression to keep me engaged, the online works well, movement is fast and fluid, and there's a lot of skill expression in the gameplay. I can't really think of another game I've played this year that I've enjoyed more. Tournaments have been fun to watch.
>>713365408I love encountering people with friendly fire on in seamless co-op, it's always hilarious. I tried DS3 seamless co-op with a few friends, but we lost interest in Irithyll. The first act of the game is such a slog, even in multiplayer.
>>713364201 (OP)Fantasy Life i, it tickles my autism, is basically like an offline MMO.
Objectively, it's probably Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. It has nice weighty combat and you can tell whenever you eat shit it's your fault, it has a lot of good designs, and the game just has nearly infinite stuff to do.
In my heart, it's Spark the Electric Jester 3. It just plays so well.
>>713364201 (OP)Yes your highness
>Rift of the necrodancer>I like rhythm games, music is good, tracks have a good level of difficulty and are satisfying to learn
>>713366629Game is full of cute chibis, you should play it.
>>713364201 (OP)Katamari and I played it because it's a good game.
Space Marine 2, it would be better though if I didn't have to hold the A button to confirm something instead of just pressing it once, whoever started that trend of holding down to confirm needs to be raped to death.
Look Outside was the only game I finished this year so that
it was kino

Game has pretty enjoyable combat, you unlock more stuff the further you are in game which gives me this feeling that I am always working for something that is actually a meaningful upgrade and the story is amazing and has a lot of kino moments
>>713368895NTA but far I have convinced one friend to play LobCorp which got filtered so hard that I don't think he will play it ever again and I am still convincing other friend who only played Limbus just because he is gacha addict who plays twenty different gachas
>>713364201 (OP)Outer wilds. A huge riddle waiting to be solved
>>713368895Lobcorp is very much a filter game
It's great and I've played it a few times but I've never managed to beat it because it gets kind of tiring trying to remember everything and it's difficult to jump back into from a break. I never remember what I was trying to do with my employees and invariably forget that this one abnormality doesn't like if you have specifically 3 fortitude or something and then a rock comes out of nowhere to smash all my employees
>>713369039I'm a big vocaloid faglord so I got that, they're fun to play but I really do question the song choices. I only really like two of them
The Roottrees are Dead is an extremely chill game about note-taking and deduction. If you like assembling the pieces of a larger puzzle and watching everything come together, I highly recommend it. The second scenario is a little less solid, in my opinion, but still has some pretty good twists and turns.
>>713366245I tried getting into this because the game was billed as anime xcom but the actual tactical elements of the gameplay were really fucking dull. I finally threw in the towel once I got to that story mission where you take the hacker chick to go open a bunch of warehouses to look for a thingy but it turns out she is the only one who can open the warehouses, so you have like 10 other guys sitting around waiting while her slow ass just slowly waddle around and opens the warehouses you need to go inside to accomplish the objective, and there are like 16 different warehouses on the map or some shit.
Story was extremely meh and I didn't particularly like any of the characters. The mechanical side of character building definitely seemed like the focus, I can see how you could lose a lot of hours planning out character builds in that game, but the story and the gameplay just couldn't pull me through.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
>>713370279the story is really weak until the main plot twist that 9/11 was an inside job and youre the bad guys for a deepstate psyop.

System Shock Remake
It's quite faithful. At first I was extremely sceptical but ended up loving it a lot. It's not a full replacement for og but still great. Can even forgive mandatory lesbian couple addition.
>>713370456I dunno I spent the first like 15 hours of the game beating up random gangs trying to extort and strong arm citizens with seemingly infinite numbers of members so that one kind of feels like it's out of left field
What was the big twist? He couldn't control the power and made his sister kill a bunch of people inadvertently?
>>713372985... anon, that happens like halfway through the series, that's not the big twist.

Aliens Dark Descent was pretty good aside from the grillboss main character. The minute to minute gameplay was pretty damn fun and if you liked the second movie) you owe it to yourself to give it a pirate.
>>713371590If you want to then sure, I liked the newest canto very much but if you don't want to keep up you IDs leveled then I guess you could just watch cutscenes on yt. Though it slowly showing that PM in general have trouble with keeping Limbus alive just because director don't want to hire more people because he is a control freak. For example he decided to sacrifice intervallo that would lead to Ryoshu's Canto and Railway for a fucking arknights collab and even then the next canto will release around december and probably be delayed anyway.
Also I hate how new IDs are becoming bigger and bigger wall of text
War of the Monsters. Giant monsters are my jam. Fantastic homage.
Expedition 33, just a general high quality product. Far from perfect and the second coming of christ or anything like that, but its just an overall fun game.

Paper Mario
reasons are obvious, I just happened to replay it again this year
>>713376175I was once invited to play it during a PVP event called Revengeance or something where everyone were like TF2 classes (which my friends told me it will eventually come back), I bought the collector's edition on a sale almost a year ago, touched it during that event, then stopped playing it right after.
But then I tried jumping in for the story. Started at the Daggerfall Covenant and Rivenspire will be next after I saving the king at Stormhaven. My friends told me to avoid starting at the Pact one as they've said that is the worst storyline, also told me to have patience when I reach Craglorn after doing all the 3 factions as they said that the story there is awfully displaced and annoying. Also unlocked Scrying at Solitude before starting at Daggerfall to grind gold with it to trade small zone DLCs like Guilds & Glory and Clockwork City as crown sellers right now don't know what to do with their Crowns. Already did "guild chaining" with my friends to have 2 guilds just for us with 500 bank slots each since we're not subbing. Also got recommended to sub one month to get 2 free companions and a furnishing vault, and do some DLC dungeons if I ever need a reason to.
Also looking forward housing. Seems pretty neat after I browsed the house tours. I'm also trying to level up all my crafting skilltrees and getting furniture recipes. Although I'm saving Provisioning food recipes to another future character since food ingredients take too much space (still leveling my current one on it in order to be able to craft rarer furnishings).
>>713364201 (OP)I just noticed I haven't been able to play much this year. I could go with Crash 2, it was my favourite Crash out of the trilogy, Metroid Zero Mission wasn't that much my thing, Sonic Advances through Rush were alright but I still enjoyed Crash more, and ENA's game was alright but tiny.
But Deltarune is more to my liking and if I'm being honest it's that. Feels weird when the story is halfway and Crash 2 is a pretty complete product (even if the final boss is ass) but just how I felt.

Demon's Souls
The game is AMAZING. Holy, it's good. First souls game I played. I wasnt able to figure out parrying in Sekiro, whether the game wanted me to parry as soon as the symbol popped up, before the swing, during the swing or right before the hit. So I started with DeS instead. I really like how the game works. You keep items you find, you lose the equivalence of XP points, when you die. You restart at very clearly defined and chose checkpoints in the game. There is no saving or loading, you are forced to play ironman. Death is part of the game mechanics. It's kinda like soft roguelike mechanics. In later souls games your healing items are very limited.
I cant believe I missed out on this game. My only criticism is that you should find more items. Like just more clothes to wear.
>>713364201 (OP)Replayed the trilogy and it's still cool
>>713364201 (OP)Probably Expedition 33 in terms of mechanics alone, but I preferred Metaphor Refantazio in terms of story. I've been burnt out on the modern Persona formula, so I was surprised that some good character writing, a strong main villain, and emphasis on travel in a new fantasy setting were all enough to revitalize it for me.
>>713364201 (OP)Morrowind. Ashfall and MWSE revived my interest for the game after falling for the OpenMW and TR purist shills. Vanilla-fags really all do have shit taste, huh?
>>713364201 (OP)Doll's Nest. Cute girls in mechs exploring a dilapitated superstructure, what more could you want?
>>713364201 (OP)I think code geass's plot was stupid, but I like how it gave Jun Fukuyama a lifetime's worth of popularity and more work so he can do more fun roles so that makes it okay. Clamp is the best part about the show. Also Eureka Seven is the better show of the two.
>>713364201 (OP)Beyond All Reason
An RTS that understood what RTS are supposed to be and ignored Blizzard cancer. Fuck shit """strategy""" games where executing a mediocre strategy faster beats executing a good one slightly slower.
>>713364201 (OP)The First Berserker: Khazan. It has a pretty good combat system and some pretty good bosses (probably has the best mage fights in a Souls-like game for instance). Rest of the game is kind of mediocre, but I mainly care about gameplay and for these types of games that is all about the action for me.
>>713364201 (OP)As he wishes.
I had a great time with Citizen Sleeper 2, if you're looking for a shorter experience. As someone who resonated deeply with the first game, the second still hit me like a goddamn train, even if I think the ending fizzled out pretty hard.
I can never get over Persona 3. I'm sorry- it's my favorite so far, even over Hades 2 (unless StS2 hits this year). I played Portable when I was twelve, and I genuinely really like some of the new story mechanics, even if I think the gameplay stuff makes it a bit too easy sometimes.
I'm getting autographs from Dawn Bennett (nu-Aigis), Michelle Ruff (original Yukari/Kawakami) and Allegra Clark (nu-Mitsuru) at Anime Expo, if anyone's got good quotes. I already got Tara Platt.
I was playing modded KH2FM last night so that I guess.
>>713378927I actually liked Metaphor a good bit too, though I really need to finish it. I got to The Divine Spear/recycled SMT4 twist before I put it down for a bit. I'll probably pick it back up while I travel.
>>713364201 (OP)Helldivers 2, when you get a good random team together and it just clicks, it's a proper and fun horde shooter. Too bad Leviathans are still AIDS.
>>713364201 (OP)ngihtreign. its the only game ive played this year
>>713381639I think it can drag a bit in the final stretch (mainly because they wait until the final month or so to drop a good chunk of sidequests on you), but I was still satisfied with how it all wrapped up.
Felt good to play a new IP that was unabashedly classic fantasy.
>>713381673I take long breaks between repeated sessions, but when Helldivers is good it's really good. Outside of ancient MMO days I've never really stuck with a multiplayer game that shaped things for the community with organic community events like the fall of Malevelon Creek.
>>713382390>>713381639I'd like Metaphor more if the grind for the Royal archetypes weren't so ass.
>>713382390>Felt good to play a new IP that was unabashedly classic fantasy. This is the big one for me, I think. We don't get a lot of those, any more- and the premise ("FUCK ENDING THE WORLD, THIS MOON WANTS YOU TO PICK THE FIRST FUCKING PRESIDENT") is genuinely pretty engaging for me.
Also, Gali and Hulkenburg can get it any day of the week. Even if I'd go for Brigitta if I could.
>>713369748I really like the idea of a puzzle game where you have all the tools and abilities you need from the start, but the game itself is a search for the knowledge of how to use it.
The only other game I've seen tackle something similar was Tunic.
The games I've finished this year are:
Lobotomy Corporation
Library of Ruina
Record of Lodoss War
Ender Magnolia
Devil Survivor 2
Deltarune Chapters 3+4, if you want to count that
Metroid Zero Mission
Mega Man Battle Network
It doesn't really feel right to me to count Deltarune with it being incomplete, so of the rest of them, I'd say Library of Ruina is the best. I do think it feels designed in such a way that you could tell it was in early access and being released piece by piece, because the later parts of the game always feel like they're trying to be some big bombastic thing that would be worthy of a new update, and it gets kind of grating as a result, and it has a few other issues, but in most respects the game was great. I like the world even if it's not really what I envisioned from Lobotomy Corporation, I think the defensive mechanics feel a lot better than defensive mechanics in most turn-based games, I like the build variety, I like the framing of you having this kind of evil lair that you defend from adventurers, it was just good throughout. The worst was Battle Network, but I like the idea of the combat so I hope later entries are an improvement.
>>713378927I like Metaphor, but I wasn't tired of the Persona formula before playing it and was still put off by how much Metaphor takes from it. I feel like the whole focus on adventure and travel is directly at odds with the calendar system and Social Links, to the point the game has to pull the cop out of letting you teleport, which kills the feeling of being on this journey across the country to me. I wish they felt more free to stray more from Persona. I like Persona a lot, but Metaphor could have been its own thing and it feels too content to be fantasy-Persona, to me.
>>713382701Yeah, it really IS cheeks...the wisdom seeds or whatever that you can grow while you travel have done me a lot of good.
>>713382704>HulkenburgI'd like a Hulkenberg/Catherina sandwich.
>>713382701My only gripe with the royal archetypes was that they essentially gave party members a clearly best option to work towards, rather than making you stick with just coming up with your own unique combo of choices.

>>713382704The conflict of forcing democracy on a world that never even dreamed of the idea of free elections is a super fun premise. And I actually really like that most of the party members are still just shameless monarchists, because that's the system that they naturally understand and trust regardless of how it's failed them.
Age of Mythology
Because it's the only game I've played this year
>>713382956I loved Metaphor but the archetype stuff was frankly a waste of time, 80% of them are just leveled just for the sake of it or for one specific ability to inherit.
Zero reason to actually mess around with them because they're such a pain to level and the game legit refuses to give you a good place to power level until the final dungeon of the game where you can't even leave.
Game doesn't even unlock them on new game plus so power leveling them late game is just gonna make the merciless run brain dead easy/you feel like an idiot if you DON'T max out everything on your first save.
Oh and you can't even do completely fresh Merciless run for some god forsaken reason.
>>713383324It really IS neat. It only exists in a literal storybook, as an idealized version of itself- and the characters pick at its flaws...even though they live under. Well. Monarchism.
I know that's not exactly 'new', but it's still refreshing to me- especially given how often Atlus backs out of any actual social commentary (Persona 4 and 5, looking at you).
Expedition 33. Brilliant combat and narrative that touches on a theme I've experienced first hand.
2nd place probably goes to Bravely Default, since I never got passed Floren the first time a decade ago, but really wish I did because the game is phenomenal

If anything I think it would have been interesting to explore potential branching outcomes or consequences, depending on who you allied with or what communities you had the time to give aid based on where you actually had time to travel to. But that style of game would have likely called for a much bigger budget.

Also they have loads of fucked up shit in their history that I kinda wish got properly explored like the battlefields where all the corpses were dumped into that ravine and all their souls were left to fester with hate and despair.
>>713383709The secret is that a lot of the abilities that seem good but not great for their own jobs mix and match with other jobs.
The swordsman free lunch for example is basically designed to be used with the pirate's amped strike.
Other combos are obvious like black mage / archonist + group cast + poison + exterminate.
>>713383447Yeah, that's where I thought Expedition 33 shined a bit more, because of the wild range of ways you could build party members up to specifically compliment each other and feed into each other's damage output in wacky ways.

>>713383617It's easy to just have fantasy characters all agree with an obvious "good" or "bad," when it comes to commenting on modern social views, so I liked how some characters thought the protagonist's book sounded amazing, some questioned the smaller details, and some like Fidelio point out the obvious flaws because "Freedom to be whatever you want," can still just mean, "Freedom to be asshole."

>>713364201 (OP)intravenous 2
it's the first stealth action game i've played that actually has decent action and enemies with some semblence of self preservation
>>713364201 (OP)Ultrakill is an incredibly good action game, and has so much content even before completion
Its everything /v/ says action games should be: Tons of combinations and interactions that are tricky to pull off, they are massively encouraged but not at all mandatory and the player can stick to the basics if he wants, encourages you to use your full arsenal but you can make do with only a few weapons if you dont like the rest, enemies with a lot of situationally different best ways to kill instead of a specific counter always being dominant, uninterrupted action with no cutscenes/padding/collectathons, platforming is generally well integrated into levels and not bingbingwahoo segments, the toughest bosses and fights requiring you to be good at movement and many simultaneous actions instead of just invalidating everything with a single i-frame or parry, and so on
>>713368895Best game I've played for the past 5 years maybe even 10, it's definitely something special.
>>713385743That doesn't remove the gay undertones, you know. The Legend of Korra having a gay ending doesn't suddenly erase the straight relationship drama throughout the show.
>>713389395You dont belong here if you arent
Sorry champ,reddits that way
>>713390034reminder this game is the ultimate litmus test for whiteness
>>713364201 (OP)Thief, because it's one of my favorite games and any year I play it, it's probably the best game I played that year unless I played one of the few games I like as much if not more.
>>713366994Blue Prince fucking sucked. It's one of the worst examples of a game trying to waste player time.
>>713367201>gushing about New Vegas>Britannian Princess outed as trans in Area 11
Uh.....hundred line I guess? I liked the story and characters. Plus the music was nice too.
The best game I had finished released in the year 2025?
I mean shit Mario Kart World honestly. I didn't hate Mindseye as much as I should. Doom The Dark Ages was ok...
But yeah it's Mario Kart World. I haven't finished Expedition 33 yet I expect that to take its place.
>>713364201 (OP)The New Zealand Story.

>>713364201 (OP)Betterified VI: Bestified
Mario Kart World, the tracks are detailed as fuck I didn't expect this level of polish and the soundtrack, damn
Ninja Gaiden Black - so good adventure and slasher fusion. Hard bosses, metoidvania/souls locations with short pathes, alternative weapons and ninpo. It gave me PoP:WW vibes.
I started NGB2. Beautiful graphic, but boring straight corridor with 3000 mobs. I finished, Not really bad. But in contrast, it upset me so much that I didn’t play games for several months.
>>713364201 (OP)Arena Breakout Infinite. I am quite impressed by what the chinks achieved here cause i was expecting some real dogshit. Might be just me having shit taste in videogames cause all i play is counter strike and some dune awakening when i want to chill.
>>713364201 (OP)Now let's see what lelouch's this year's best game is
>>713396007You know it in your heart: Amogus
>>713364201 (OP)unironically, deltarune
new doom was so shit i already forgot it came out
>>713396007>>713396541I think part of what makes Lelouch so popular is besides Chess, he really doesn't have any hobbies or interests, so it makes it easier for people to add in their own stupid shit.
>>713364201 (OP)Should I watch this shit? I heard it's nuts.
>>713373925I liked Maeko. She was a strong woman but she wasn't a dick to everyone around her and she was cute.
>>713397352Yeah it's good
>>713397352Yeah probably
It's one of those things that everyone agrees is a good time
>>713397352You arent missing much so I personally wouldnt recommend it. Pick up a Kamen Rider show like Ryuki or Gaim instead itll be a better use of your time. If not that then check out Garo.
>>713364201 (OP)Its been Roadcraft, eking out e33 by a hair. I just love the laborious, slow patience pace of gameplay, and the trucks because I’ve driven some. I put 200h into it and still have 1 and 1/2 maps to finish. I’ll be going back to it after a break and when dlc drops.
mh risebreak
skipped on it initially but bought it due to wilds
it feels like a step in the right direction as an evolution from GU, i think the wirebug is very similar but more flexible to the mechanics of GU
what a great game
i also love the art direction, world and wilds never stood a chance
>>713364391Do I need to or should I play Romancing saga 1 first?
>>713400424NTA but nope. RS2 Remake was my first SaGa game, i fucking loved it and highly recommend it
>>713366245Forgot I downloaded this game will have to play it
>>713364201 (OP)Star of Providence.
I like chiptune and the new tracks in February's content drop are all fantastic imo. Also the new ship they added lets you more consistently get runs where you clear whole rooms without really aiming at anything before the enemies even start moving so that's fun even though the revenge bullets start fucking you over at high loops.
>>713364201 (OP)Reverse Collapse probably
>>713364201 (OP)Obduction
Good puzzles in line with what I liked about Myst (and doesn't have 80% of the game be solved by the tower and the library like Myst), vibrant locales, they even managed to keep the mechanics lined up with the story.
Points off, though, for how linear the order of solving puzzles seems to get and for how many puzzles involve slowly going between worlds
