This is my thoughts, too. I'd much rather risk Silent Hill. In the best case, you gave a nice peaceful vacation. Silent Hill is pretty much always the best answer, regardless of whether it's SH1 or SH2 themed.

>Average protagonist is some random individual with little to no physical feats and can barely hold a gun. This includes a writer, Jame's sullen ass, Heather being a literal teenager, and more normal people.
>If it's SH1, you're dealing with horrific creatures, but none that can't be dealt with using a firm application of a pipe. If it's SH2, it's more complicated, but enemies are still dispatched easily.
>If it's SH2, you basically just need to face what you are and what you've done. While that could be impossible for some people, James made it out despite killing his wife.

Seriously, people always seem to underestimate Raccoon City because lolzombies. If you take away plot armor, all it takes is a single infected crow to swipe you from the air, and bam, you're infected. That's it, you're done. Silent Hill sucks in any form, but normal, even lame/weak people have survived it.

Remake heavily implies a loop, but the Leave ending still has him walk away with Laura. It could easily be argued that he broke the loop with that ending.

Regardless, that was his experience. That isn't what others would have. I would still take my chances in the fog compared to a single crow ducking down and pecking me once. Or getting decapitated by a Licker before I even look up. Or a pack of hunters rounding a corner. Or just a horde of zombies hearing me in a building.

Leave could still be an end result of looping through other endings. Especially when something like In Water leads directly into another ending in NG+, whereas (to my knowledge) Leave doesn't.

Maybe I'm missing something or not remembering, but I never caught onto Leave being "non-canon" or unable to confirm the end of a loop. Besides, my point still stands that that's James' experience. It doesn't manifest in the same way for everyone. As terrible as it was, look at Downpour for an example.

Considering the amount of average people died during the Raccoon City events, I don't see my chances being that great. Obviously they'd be better since you know what you're walking into, but the sheer chaos and unpredictability of it all makes things rough.

Raccoon City is just spawn RNG. If you live anywhere near the highway you can just leave. They didn't shut down the roads until the outbreak was well under way. Even then I think escaping a city is going to be easier than some sort of metaphysical alternate dimension unless you were like in the subway.

It's not stated but you wouldn't be wrong for considering it. She definitely does have some sort of subconscious connection and resonance with Silent Hill. You could read it as her being able to manifest things herself or just being able to intuit the mechanics of it and being able to sort of commune with whatever force Silent Hill is which is more where I lean towards.

I don't know if you've ever watched the movie The Mothman Prophecies or Annihilation or read much from Jaques Valle but my headcanon is that Silent Hill the concept is an intelligent entity itself and all these beings that dwell within it are goblins that change depending on the observer's perception.

The monsters in Silent Hill 1 are born from Alessa's nightmares. Everything is. That's the core theming of the franchise. Harry literally spells it out, for fuck's sake. The Otherworld is "a world of someone's nightmarish delusions come to life". The monsters are various things little Alessa was afraid of, from animals to fictional monsters, distorted into true monstrosities by her unending nightmares.
Even "God" is based on how it is perceived. When taking after that crooked bitch Dahlia, it's a demon (Incubus in the good and good+ endings). When taking after innocent little Alessa, it's an angelic figure (Incubator in the bad and bad+ endings). In 3, when Claudia spawns it, its appearance is of Alessa.
The monsters of Silent Hill are born from the subconscious as well as real physical beings that can and WILL fuck your shit up. These aren't mutually exclusive.

Raccoon City is always the choice. Everyone thinks they're brave, smart, and can deal with their inner demons but we know for a fact that almost no one makes it out of Silent Hill alive or intact.
Raccoon city is still horrible, but you're not going through labs looking for the virus or part of STARs or anything. If your goal is to escape then regular zombies won't be much of an issue. You might run into some turbo spitter dog nemesis type shit and then you're probably fucked, but you still have better odds than Silent Hill.
If I am able to bring my gun(s) then I think my odds of surviving Raccoon City might be in the ~25% range provided my goal is just to get through the city. I don't think I have any chance of making it through Silent Hill.

I had a similar thought for an SH game. not that anything would ever come about it. But a guy who was medically discharged from the military after injuring his leg. So one day he'd find himself in Silent Hill after getting passed around to multiple VA appointed therapists and such.The "twist" would've been he was breaking the Rules of Engagement and instead of giving him a dishonourbale discharge, they luck out with his injury and send him home with a medical discharge instead. But since he loved the violence and killing and he misses it, he's lulled into Silent Hill in a way for the cultist to indoctrinate and get him on their side. I had a whole list of ideas and some terribly drawn monsters for it, like a guy wrapped in barbed wire, nails, and rebar, which would symbolically be about how he did not want people to get close to him, fear of getting attached or emotional bonds from people who were legitimately trying to help him. I had the plan of having the player choose to save or kill in some brutal fashion the people who wanted to help him, family and friends, military personnel who looked down upon or whatnot.

wish I still had those files, because I'd love to see if it was actually salvageable or just trash.
