Twice in my life, I almost watched all of Stargate SG-1 (the second time being after I had forgotten most of the plot), and both times I lost interest around when the spin-offs started because I didn't want to fucking watch them and I felt like I was missing shit if I didn't.
I kinda wish there were a Stargate video game. But only if it were based only on SG-1 and only if enjoying the story didn't require watching hours and hours and hours of shit outside of the game's own cutscenes.

No, Stargate has more in common with things like Silent Storm and Jagged Alliance than it does X-Com. Any base building or research done in Stargate is to provide a plot hook for an episode or an excuse to film on a new set, they're not fundamental to the show the way they are to the games.

They keep saying that research is a big part of it, they keep trying to develop things and you just don't see results early on because US bureaucracy and military is just...
..A bit slow.
I mean, the splinter faction that says fuck this and actually tries to make things is a big plot point for most of the show

Fuck no. The interactions between the cast and the cast itself are all weaker than the main show. Wraiths had a really good introduction but they fell off before the first season was even over.

Rodney alone is worth watching Atlantis for. It definitely has a very rough start but unless you have a hateboner for the muh people tribal chick it's better than half the episodes in SG-1. SG-1 has lots of bad ones.

There was talk of a new series regarding that family (forget the name, but the girl and her brother), but the story concluded just as the book did, so it is proper.

It wasn't perfect, but I respect that they played it the way they did Killing Alex was bullshit, though

It looks alright so far, like it wants to be a Mass Effect type of game which I think suits the setting and series well. The devs have seemingly never made any third person shooters or any large RPG-type games so that gives me some doubt. Coming from a smaller, European studio (Owlcat, Cyprus-based), it has the potential to be some decent Eurojank. I'm a sucker for the Expanse so I've got my fingers crossed, personally.
>the second Expanse game so far since the series ended
If they don't fuck it up maybe there's a chance for something in the future, there's a lot more from the books that could be adapted.
The special editions give me something of a bitter taste, since they're locking a bunch of cool, Miller-specific gear behind a $79.99 "Miller's Pack". I like Miller, you're telling me I'm going to have to buy a special edition to unlock his stuff? The game takes place during the first few seasons as well. With all this focus on Miller items, I wonder if his character will be in the game? Or will we just be looting all his stuff and LARPing as him? I don't think any big characters from the show/books otherwise have been mentioned thus far.

I'm just not sure how much of an RPG it's supposed to be. It's following the timeline of the show/books where certain big stuff are happening in specific places so it doesn't allow them to move around much story wise which makes me doubtful about your choices mattering that much. It's also a TPS and one in a universe where you don't have much wiggle room on what you can do, especially in combat so even if it's Owlcat it's kinda scaring me. I don't want it to be a really linear shooter.
There better be characters as based as Amos and Miller in, though.

>doesnt just dial out and stick a camera on a stick through

Yes they do it's called a MALP and it can't be on a stick because it wouldn't be transported until it's fully through.

>we got the iris code but the iris is jammed, they will die if they come through!!!
>doesnt just have a simple >receive code >give confirmation iris is open, then come though procedure

Yes they do. Send the code, walter confirms, open the iris. If they can they radio in. The real plot hole is codes can be compromised, all it takes is one snake in the head and you can slip a naquada nuke straight into the SGC

>doesnt just dial out and stick a camera on a stick through
that's not how the horizon event works, you can't have something partially emerge from one side while the rest is on the other side. It's fully submerged, decomposed, then recomposed on the other side.

>>doesnt just have a simple >receive code >give confirmation iris is open, then come though procedure
they literally do have a confirmation code and often mentioned it, but depending on how perilous shit is they could try to cross before receiving it.

The good episodes of SG-1 do make up for the bad ones. As I've said several times, that statement only holds if you compare a half and a whole. One on one and it's much more difficult. Prune/fix all of the bad episodes from both and it's even more difficult. Either way both Stargate shows are easily in top 5 sci-fi shows made for me.

SG-1 is by far my comfort show not series 1 or 2 but when they get comfortable in the roles and stop trying to replicate the movie, when it becomes fully it's own concept and they start to get a decent budget is, it's absoultely worth watching.
I remember watching back on SkyOne on television coming back home from school and watching Star Trek Voyager and Stargate 1 back to back, good times.

I don't know if anyone played it or will know what I'm talking about but around the mid 2000s there was an online browser game in the Stargate Universe where you could play as the Tau-ri, the Gou'ald, the Replicators or the Asgard, you would build your army and could ally or attack other real players.
I don't remember the name of it or if it even exists anymore.
