The last Rare DK was on the n64, Every aspect of DK since 2000 is on Nintendo. And there was a Rare purge, but it was almost intimidate, and they dumped anything they didn't like about Rare DK, but that didn't include everything.

eg - They kept Funky Kong, but he went back to being a surfer instead of a sovereign citizen. Diddy, Dixie and Cranky stayed, but Kiddy, Lanky, Tiny and Chunky got taken out back. K. Rool was massively demoted in importance, his 90s ass was not going to be DK's Official Bowser or Ganon. Diddy himself has worked his way up to a core Nintendo character despite his Rare origins.

Really it seems like they mostly didn't like DK64, most of the SNES DK enemies, animal buddies and characters have stuck around.
