That's because we have to deal with sifting through the endless tides of shit today when people in the future just have to look up "Best x from the XXs" and instantly get a list of everything that was successful. That also means that there were no good ol days, you just remember everything worth remembering.

You don't. The chill ones that can properly appreciate them on their own merits are already seeking out retro games. Nothing good comes from anything getting widespread zoomer attention.

games are tech. there generally isnt a trend where old technology is better. tech advances and gets better, cars advance and get better, airplanes advance and get better, videogames advance and get better.

its mostly just rose tinted goggles. you are more than likely think positively of things you interacted during your developing years because you were experiencing it for the first time.

There is however a trend of lack of technology requiring talent and ingenuity, which improves a game far better than "more polygons and raytracing!"

you don't for the most part, as >>713386328 said, games get better, truth be told, a lot of people used to really enjoy older games because they didn't have anything better, now that we are used with modern game design features, those older things can seem outdated
note how there are some older games that are "atemporal" or "timeless"
note how people would have a lot of trouble playing something like goldeneye 007 but wouldn't have much trouble playing something like cs 1.6
half life 2 is only 2 years younger than morrowind but people have no problems playing half life 2 either

so saying that a game is clunky is now really a invalid complaint in this context, the best you can do is ignore them or make mods that make gameplay a little less "outdated", several old as fuck games already have sort of things

How old? I find the early 1990s games to be super clunky, but the late 1990s games to be fairly comfy.
You can even see the difference with a lot of games from that time. X-Wing is much clunkier than TIE Fighter, Arena is much clunkier than Daggerfall, and Warcraft I is much clunkier than Warcraft II.

Music and movies have almost no barrier to entry. There's rare exceptions but you can get a copy of basically any album or film that will play on your modern device. Games either require expensive old hardware or jumping through technical hoops to get old games to run on modern systems. If music was as big of a hassle people would ignore that shit too.

Talk about video games. Stop shitposting everything to oblivion and stop replying to people shitposting about what you're chatting about. Especially so to people that make their shitpost list and post it in every thread talking about the game. Just talk vidya, let sulfur appreciation show and that'll catch the interest of people looking for something a little different.

Yes, but that brings us back to the clunkiness aspect. We were able to put up with it because it was the best that we had at the time and it was what we knew, it was intuitive to us. Zoomers are used to games that play like 10x as smooth as old games as far as things like movement and switching items/weapons, navigating UIs, etc. Zoomers wouldn't be able to finish a level of an old rainbow six or socom game before quitting due to how clunky they are compared to modern shooters.

Stories and characters are a factor though. And gameplay wise, it might be that a certain type of game just doesn't get made anymore. Like for example, mecha games. You got Armored Core 6 but before that, if you wanted a game like that you'd have to play the old ones.
And sometimes another thing is gameplay elements. Victoria II and III have a lot of missing things from one to the other. If you prefer II you're "stuck"

>see cool looking retro indie game
>reviews are mixed
>check them
>half are positive because its like an updated version of an old series thats not made anymore
>other half shitting on it because its too retro even though the game advertised itself as retro
The funny part of this is a good chunk of the negative reviews I see on these games are given for free by the dev so they could shit on the game. Makes me wonder if they just lied about liking that style of game or if the devs are that retarded to just hand out review keys to spiteful zoomers.

Hardly anyone makes their own game engines now. That's not getting better. You don't understand what "tech" in game development is.

I was talking about hardware when I said tech, not game engines. But that's another huge problem too. Everyone just uses Unreal or Unity now, so all games are made in the same engine. They all control exactly the same too... gaming has very little experimentation and uniqueness within it today.

Just making your own engine display properly at the moment is a huge amount of work
Direct X, Open GL, Vulkan, Vsync, Gsync, FreeSync, HDR, 15+ years of GPU architecture thats expected to be supported

The tech is "better" but its a mile wide and an inch deep

the question is which parts are "software" and which are "art", what exactly are objective and subjective criteria?
limitations spur creative process, and so the objective technical limitation of terrible draw distance turns into subjective artisitry of a foggy town
there is also "clunkiness" that comes from particular designs, fixed jump arcs in classicvania or tank controls in resident evil, which require a particular mindset to appreciate period
no amount of BUT IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THAT can rectify the visceral hatred of the basic movement system

doesn't work not only because that very idea of boomer/x/millenial generations is retarded, but because zoomers are now grown up

>tfw trying to play kotor for the first time after playing baldurs gate 3
it's different if you haven't played a game in the genre before but trying to go back to an older game before the concept of the genre was even realized is rough. kotor's combat is a fucking tragedy because i've heard a lot of good about the story, but i'm not gonna sit through another ff12 auto attack simulator trying to be dnd

even my favorite game of all time, final fantasy crystal chronicles, has a thick layer of clunk on it
>random input delay but ONLY on normal attacks, this remains in the remaster
>can't craft the best weapons unless you chose the blacksmith family tree or spend 20 in game years leveling another character for it
>can't craft the best accessories unless you chose the tailor family tree or spend 20 in game years leveling another character for it
>the other 6 family trees DO NOT HAVE A USE
>no indication of how to level a family tree
>no indication of how loot tables work unless you bought the guide
>the original had items and stat increasing artifacts you couldn't get unless your point threshold was above a certain point. the only way to get your points high enough for some of the better ones is via a bonus objective which you CANNOT SEE IN THE ORIGINAL UNLESS YOU PLUG IN A GAMEBOY AS A CONTROLLER
>cant do multiplayer in the original without multiple gameboys
>cant do multiplayer in the remaster without multiple consoles, and multiple online service fees
>remaster multiplayer is in dungeon only, your party members dont get story progress and aren't in cutscenes with you

i love the game to death but yes, older games have a lot of unnecessary clunkiness

No, anon, KotoR was an advancement, if you can believe that. It's not trying to be DnD, it is straight up using the D20 system. But time makes fools of us all.
The game was made in the interim era of Bioware pivoting from CRPGs (original BG games) to WRPG (Mass Effect and Dragon Age). That's how you get over-the-shoulder RTWP pseudo-turn-based combat.

retards. technology isn't something you can just decide its definition to discount video games as art. tech by its very definition is the scientific advancement for applicable purposes. like a computer to compute equations to build a rocket, or even a hammer made to build a house. Video games are not made to be applied to solve a problem or have real world practical applications, similar to music, or a story, they are art. They were clunky back then because the TECH that ran them sucked, and now it doesn't. Now go ahead and bitch about it
