I do security work and 90% of my job involves getting crackhobos off private property before they start ripping wires out, absolutely sick of seeing people fent-shuffle around looking for copper, but it's always shitty seeing someone that was just genuinely out of luck.
Here's hoping things work out.

Some general advice to offer. Not to sure how familiar you are with camping so you may already know but make sure you have an actual tarp under your tent to keep things dry and also, especially if your keeping electronics in there make sure they don’t touch the walls of your tent. Even if it doesn’t rain the morning dew can something soak anything touching the walls. And also, when you have to start sleeping in your car, try and find a solid battery powered fan some of those pads you put on windows so no one can see inside while you’re asleep. And also, don’t ever leave your car if someone starts tapping on it, messing with the door, or anything like that. Hope things work out for you.

>Think about going homeless to not have bills (minus phone)
>Could work 16 hour days 7 days a week if I could find a way to get away with it
>Just eat potatoes and drink water while fasting every other day
>Think of the inconvenience of where to store clothing and phone + charger so nothing gets stolen
>Inconvenience of showering too
>Temperature shifts anywhere from -35 to 40 depending on the time of year
>After a few years, could maybe afford fast track 3 year school + dorm supplemented with part-time work and getting a bachelors degree, could just pirate all my textbooks
>Hopefully job isn't taken over by AI by this point
>After a decade, may have enough saved up from career (assuming I don't get let go due to downsizing because of recession) to move out of bad neighborhood apartment and put down payment on my newest massive debt (starter home)
Who knows? Maybe I'll finally be able to start living life and start a family at 45, though frankly it's irresponsible of me to think of starting a family due to my potential 45+ year old wife's biological clock rejecting it, and I would be an awful person if I had a relationship with a woman younger than me

i've been told from people that were homeless in michigan and new york area it's the opposite if you have the money for the right gear/set up.
it's very feasible to heat up and stay warm in a hobo shelter, but it's not easy to cool down and stay cool.

also for anyone itt serious about hobo/vagabond life look into getting a second or third gen prius with a sine wave inverter. it's a legit hobo mobile you can make pretty comfy if you're 6'1 and under. i know someone who did it and at one point thought of doing it myself.

I'm also 31 but I have no schooling and I can't afford it. Could I just pick a field, torrent the textbooks for all the first year classes, grind them until I actually learn them, and do the same for second, third, and fourth year? And then by the time I can afford school, I could be completely overqualified and fast track it as much as possible?

I wanted to do translation and took major steps in schooling for that, but I was told that there likely wasn't much of a future for it at the rate AI is progressing, so I have to start over with nothing.

A lot of them quit because it fucking sucked and maintenance isn't a thing that most people want to deal with. Though yes a pimped out van would be better than a regular sedan most of the time. I subbed to a youtuber who did videos about making one and traveling from his home country (UK) to places around Europe and it was kinda cool. But he completely stopped doing those videos out of the blue for fucking beekeeping content. But this was in 2021-2022 so it was probably just one of the many Covid trends.

Try and find a good community college near you and talk to advisers there. They can give advice on what degree paths and classes they offer with a lot of them having trade training and degrees too. A lot of them also have online or night classes so people who work full time can still go back to school. The only shitty thing is, while a lot cheaper than a big college campus, it’ll still put you back a couple thousand a semester in payment. They should also have financial advisers you can talk to that can give you your options on payment and offer advice

I've had it recommended to me but I'm a leaf and my goal is to get back to nippon where I lived for a bit. Life was actually great, I had plenty of opportunities, it's not like here with the nepotism wherever you apply and the huge cost of living. My life was getting on track, I looked forward to the future for the first time in years, I was making good impressions and doing well in interviews, but I had to come back since I couldn't get a work visa without a degree. Ever since my life has been at a standstill. I looked at Canadian military outposts for Japan but I couldn't find anything.

Vidya is getting harder to enjoy because of the lack of fulfilment in every other aspect of life.

I'm stuck living at home, and finding work has been rough. Like I said, I'd prefer to just grind out 16 hour days for the foreseeable future until I can save up enough to return to Japan to do a 2 year vocational school program which would make a work visa possible

People actually would give me interviews there, working part-time at a konbini or ramen place isn't hard. Nobody gives me the time of day here. That's what everyone thought, but interviewers would tell me that they wouldn't be able to get me through without even at least an associate's degree. And the interviews would go well too, it's just that as soon as they would reach the degree part, it would basically end. But I'd also get "If you can get one, contact me and we can do this again and we'll get you set up". Crushing, but it is what it is, and I understand why it's a thing. There are other ways to stay, but I was told they were not recommended at all, and after 5 years, you are out. There's also a specialized workers visa for people with over 10 years of experience in a specific field, but I don't qualify for that.

As I was coming back, I had plans, I was going to work nights and build up whatever I could, maybe listen to Japanese audio when it's slow, study more and more, but everything immediately came grinding to a halt here. Got long lectures on all the things I was stupid for expecting to be able to do, I have no options, don't expect to go back, and also "It's better here anyway".

I looked up Canada bases in Japan and it seems that they operate from the US bases. You should ask your nearest recruitment office if being stationed in Japan is realistic but honestly you wouldn't have a lot of freedom to enjoy it, plus thwre seems to be tension between the local Okinawans and American bases. Just stick to your plan of saving up and move there to join the school program. How much do you need?

It depends on the school. A Japanese vocational school would be the fastest route at 2 years, and rates would be around $10k USD based on one my teacher at the time was showing me related to IT, which I believe was just one year. It's not that bad, and because I did great in language school (perfect attendance, reached N2 in a year), I can get up to a 50% discount depending on the vocational school. I just hope that benefit still applies. But I've been looking for work since getting home over a year ago, and the fish have just not been biting. The most luck I had was a three stage interview to work two shifts a week at a gym which didn't work out, and an offer to work at a restaurant way out of town which I can't reliably reach, I don't even have a vehicle anymore and the bus doesn't go there. Currently looking into whatever hard labor is being offered, tried looking into audio transcription too, but it pays very little.

I know that probably isn't your set up, but that is a massive fucking tent. That shit must be expensive. It even has a second room attached to it. I know you can get tents with multiple rooms that are huge, but they're several hundred dollars. That one might be cheaper, but still...it has a ton of space.

I hate camping so I've never actually camped in a decent tent. The 2-3 times I've slept in a tent was a living hell. It was hot and cramped. I think they squeezed like four of us into a tent that was only designed to hold three people at best. Camping in the summertime is retarded anyway. The best time is to go in the fall, or at least when it gets cooler outside. I think it's stupid to be like "Hell yeah, let's go camp in 98-degree weather with a low of 76 with 95% humidity!" I also assume location is a factor. Some states/areas have a better climate for camping.

I wouldn't call it love, but oneitis/limerence is straight up a drug addiction. Your brain produces oxytocin in response to someone, and you can't stop thinking about them. When they're not around, all you can do is wish they were, your brain is addicted to the high. And when it's not reciprocated, you're left feeling crushed by everything like you're experiencing the worst depression. The best thing is to gtfo and go through the withdrawals, because otherwise that person will have way too much control over how you feel but won't care about you enough to treat those feelings delicately, and you'll just feel intense pain.

I recently just gave up on ever finding a stable job and have been trying to turn my van into my new permanent home, have been going surprisingly good so far as I managed to get some free materials from a vendor who were just going to trash it. I made a bed frame, a small table, insulated the entire van with spray foam/made interior walls and I made some shelves so that I can store more stuff and keep the floors free.

I've been doing some odd work around the town I camp out near, it's enough to feed me, pay for the phone bill, pay for gas, pay for the gym membership (where I shit, shower and wash my clothes) and save up for stuff. I'm currently looking into solar just so that I don't have to rotate between campsites just to leech some electricity every other day.
