It was ported to modern systems including Steam, Switch, and PS4, so there's not much reason to overpay for the PS2 or Wii version if you just want to play the game.

Apparently it was originally developed as part of the Pocky & Rocky / Kiki Kaikai series, but that fell through when Taito merged with Square Enix, and the developer retooled the project.

nah, honestly the cut off point should be the 360 and ps3 end of life, games from nowadays still feel like shit it could come out on the xbox one and ps4, hell some new releases still show up on the ps4.
However there can be certain games that should be banned due how much of a lively community they still got, like tf2 or gta v.

I pre-ordered it in November 2022, still hasn't fucking shipped.
Hasn't sold-through either, is supposed to ship this year and isn't that expensive compared to the grey market retro releases.

The biggest distinguisher should be SD vs. HD. The 360 and PS3 are high definition, so they shouldn't count. Obviously handhelds are a bit different, like I don't think the Vita is retro even though it's SD. Everything before that like Gamecube, Xbox, PS2, etc. are fine.

The thing is that PS3 and 360 graphics are day and night compared to xbone and ps4, yeah some major AAA releases still hold up but most games from that time look like shit by today standards.
