Tifa as a character, not really. The game she's in, very much so.

No, she's popular and moves merch but a decent chunk of the fanbase completely does not understand her character, her motivation, or her role in the story.
I think the hate she gets from that group balances her popularity out.

I have somehow never heard of her before the remakes so I'll say yes since she blew up after those.
