It was two dudes, Jack and Geoff I think, who’d just react to funny gameplay footage in Halo Reach submitted to them by their fans. I think that was Achievement Hunter or something. That was all I cared about in regards to Rooster Teeth. I always found RvB, RWBY, and those cringy little animated sketches they did so painfully fucking cringe inducing. The most enduring thing I remember about Rooster Teeth is how Tatsudoshi (Kdin) getting a job with them completely fucked up the circle of smalltime Youtubers I watched at the time. A few of them ended up better off than ever. PhantomSavage and KZX are both still going, but the content just isn't the same, Phantom doesn't even do let's plays anymore. And most of them faded off into obscurity.

These threads are always an interesting read, seeing the anons who followed RT after the first wave fans left. I did not care for the 'plot' they developed during the RvB halo 2 arc and didn't go back sometime before halo 3 came out. The comics were good and the one offs they did for Microsoft Studios games were mostly okay.
That said, I still recall RvB being the first thing I seriously watched on Machinima (later their website when I caught up to the current releases).

Kdin getting the job at Rooster Teeth was treated like a huge betrayal in that group. You couldn't bring him up on a livestream by any one of them without them showing some clear resentment. He had to sell out somehow to make it happen.

But, in the end PhantomSavage has over a million subscribers now that he dubs webcomics, and KZX trudges along being lucky to get a thousand views on a livestream VOD while his original channel appears to be lost for good.
