1. Steam has a lot of addicting games like say Rimworld which people sink thousands of hours into and it's hard for them to break away.
2. Steam sales have a lot of good discounts so people flood their libraries with games, they will try them out for a time but as mentioned in 1. they will just go back to what they were addicted to in the end.
