Because they never liked how a western outsider company came in and almost entirely reshaped the direction and perception of their foundational IP. This isn't even their first rodeo in retooling the IP; they first tried a similar soft-reboot with Jungle Beat way back in 2004 (while not as drastic of a stylistic departure as Bananza, it did eliminate far more traces of Rareware characters).

Shit, they didn't even have much regard for game-to-game continuity going from BotW to TotK. one of the big reasons it was a huge mistake to reuse the same world and core characters from BotW. Direct Zelda sequels thrived by taking place in new areas, since they didn't fuck with the story of their direct predecessors even when they did have returning characters besides Link.
