Why do people hate Nintendo's stance on piracy?
I think it’s completely reasonable to penalize customers who deliberately try to exploit or pirate services. The MiG card situation is a perfect example. Just because someone pays to stay at an expensive hotel doesn’t give them the right to act like they own the place or cause chaos.

its reasonable to stop piracy but its just funny how they buy emu devs out. no legal solution or backing, just throw money at the problem until it can't refuse.
All it ended up doing was creating forks that did the same thing. I'd like to see them pay the fork devs too

The problem with your reasoning is that Nintendo applies scorched earth to things. MIG has a perfectly applicable usage even for people that have bought legit games.
>Dump games you bought
>Put on card
>Now have access to many games through a single card and don't have to worry about internal storage
It would be like, as in your example, some dipshit at a hotel is causing trouble, but because the owner saw you talking with this person before they caused any trouble, you are being thrown out as well. Guilt by association is never cool. No matter how much you try to deny it, piracy has never resulted in a complete net loss. Especially when the majority of piracy against Nintendo has been about the NES, SNES library.

Yeah, MiG cards can be used for legit stuff like dumping your own games, but let’s be real, 95% of people use them to pirate. Nintendo isn’t doing “scorched earth” for fun; they’re reacting to what actually happens at scale. It’s not guilt by association, it’s cutting off a tool that’s mostly used for piracy.

And no, the “piracy isn’t a net loss” argument doesn’t hold up. Just because some kid wouldn’t have bought the game anyway doesn’t mean it’s harmless. Nintendo does sell the NES/SNES stuff through Switch Online and other platforms. Pirating it still undercuts that.

You can argue about ethics all day, but Nintendo’s protecting its IP. That’s their whole business.

It's not really hate, it's more just confusion, and something like curiosity.
They're throwing absurd quantities of money at something that doesn't actually cost them much. It's a disproportionate reaction.
So it's fun to pick on them and do it more, knowing that every small thing you do to them will cost them immeasurably more than it otherwise would have, by their own hand.

Next, you're going to claim unlicensed Switch emulation was for "preservation" and totally used with legitimate copies of games like TotK, two weeks earlier before its official release.

They don't, 99% of all these faggots do is harass people who make edgy (but legal) posts on Twitter/Facebook, or look at illegal 1s and 0s online.

They're basically a glorified welfare-queen agency that justifies their budget by targeting low-hanging victimless "internet" crime that they automatically get reported by the millions.

Yeah stopping terrorism sounds harder than fucking with people in their report queue for edgy Twitter posts or clicking the wrong link, so they don't do it.

They have an automated report queue of "internet crimes" (very srs) providing a backlog of millions of easy low-hanging fruit to arrest to justify their budget

They don't need to do anything else, they just send out a couple agents to these people's houses

Just a reminder that using a MiG isn't what gets you banned.
If you actually do use your own dumped copies then you're absolutely in the clear since the way detection works is that it looks for the specific instance of a game being accessed online.
In other words, if you get banned it's because you're not using your own.

I think piracy is important in terms of game preservation ontop just a general fuck Nintendo vibe. But also I'd be lying if I said I don't smile seeing Nintendo fuck over pirates. Pro piracy people are like shoplifters "steal from corpo'" people where it's like I support the idea of what you do but you people are so fucking annoying and don't know when to shut up that I'm glad when you get caught anyways

This desu. All the goddamn talk about how things are going to shit but when it comes to their vidya they feel like they're entitled to get everything for free because "the industry sucks". You are the reason the industry sucks. We could be having so many nice things if some people could just keep it in their pants but that seems like an impossible task for some.

It sucks for me because I do things the right way and I get part of the punishment due to their bullshit, too, but I completely understand why they're going the route they are. It sucks that it's a net loss for everyone involved.
