No he wasn't, the new industry that took over Halo literally did not understand their relationship. Their whole god damn plotline for Halo 4 was based off Cortana's reaction to Chief sleeping at the end of Halo 3.

yeah well no spartan did half the shit he did, all within the span of a few months, and then from his perspective a few months and then a few days when he got out of the icebox, which probably makes cortanas rampancy even worse for him since from his perspective it was probably only an hour or so when Johnson died in his arms telling him to not leave cortana
