Is this the most recent worst case of vidya marketing? It's an actual disaster that went by faster that the shitty Indiana Jones game

The "Stand and Fight" catchphrase and "you are a tank", convinced people the Dark Ages would be a complete abandonment of everything from Doom Eternal and that players would be going slow and fishing for parries in an HD version of classic Doom.

The game plays nothing like that most of the time but the trailers focused entirely on the trash dragon and mech sections and on boss fights consisting of parries.

The price and the slider shit was also a complete disaster. Imagine making a Doom game with max slider and on Nightmare way too easy.

But they did. Most of the people who played were the ones who paid for 2-days early access. It's when it was available for everyone where the number of people barely increased. First day of release over 30k. Weekend comes and goes and it only increase like maybe another 1.2k. That's why everyone was wondering what happened with how little it got when the weekend should be seeing a huge boost of players. Then they did the 3 million players announcement and then we got the graph where most of it's players were on gamepass. Sure, there are a lot of people on gamepass but we've seen games before and after still have a huge presence on steam even if they were also on gamepass if they were popular enough. It's just weird when Doom wasn't one of those.

The game looked horrible and I guess most people, like me, didn't care for it.
80 bucks is already steep and people especially don't want to normalize such price spike, and also the mech and dragon stuff and worse slider-shit gameplay sealed the deal.

2.2M on gamepass is absymal considering the gamepass base. The game did really poorly

I don't think that was the problem. It's more like dark ages continued the trend of eternal of pushing no boundaries. Usually ID games were always something that defined gfx for at least the next half decade. Dark ages won't. Combine that with kinda lackluster arena spawn in gameplay, all weapons and attacks feeling weirdly weightless for the "tankslayer" and a lot of green goo fps guitar hero segments and you have a game that's only just okay horribly bombing to people expecting something exceptional.

The game is terribly designed, damage and ammo is tuned way too hard around enemy weaknesses so the game wants you to constantly switch weapons. It's also a slog and people meme about party's in Dark Ages but you can beat every enemy while ignoring parries entirely and just shooting them, shit like Maurader can ONLY be hurt by a parry. It's all the same problem, Eternal is a game that wants you to play its way or the highway.

I hate the stupid meme sliders, they make absolutely no sense. If you are too shit at the game to play on high difficulty levels, just drop down to normal or easy. If you just want to have casual fun there's no shame playing on easy, who is going to judge you anyway? Normally you can brag about beating the game on highest difficulty but what are you going to brag about now
