>Welcome to the LEGO Island web port project! This is a recreation of the classic 1997 PC game, rebuilt to run in modern web browsers using Emscripten.

>This incredible project stands on the shoulders of giants. It was made possible by the original decompilation project, which was then adapted into a portable version. This represents a year-long effort, involving thousands of hours of work from many awesome contributors dedicated to preserving this piece of gaming history.

>Our goal is to make this classic accessible to everyone. The project is still in development, so you may encounter bugs. Your patience and feedback are greatly appreciated!

Is there a version of this modern port(?) of Lego Island I can simply download? I don't trust browser games to not lose my save data.

I saw this guy MattKC his old video some time ago when he was working on this. I'm sure there's an archive download for the original game. It seems he uploaded a new video of this 2 days ago too.

I played Xtreme Stunts and Island 2 as a kid, but never actually played 1. Is it really the best?

It's quite a different game, and probably aimed at a younger audience. You are mainly just exploring a 3d environment and triggering funny animations. There's a few minigames (e.g. a racetrack you can race on, pizzas you can deliver) but the only real "plot" is that you can accidentally release the brickster and help catch him again.
That said, this was back before video cards were mainstream, so having a 3d world that streamed multimedia data from a (slow) CD drive and could render acceptably in software was pretty impressive at the time.

some of the lore behind this is interesting
>they thought doing the actual port after the decompilation would take years because of how the code uses D3DRM graphics mode which would have to be fully replaced to work on other platforms.
>some random guy comes in and basically does most of it in a week

I'd say it's good but not really worth its base price. Probably get it on sale if you wanna play it.

I'm kinda getting tired of hearing
>okay guys, just because we have a decompilation doesn't mean we're going to be able to compile this or get it running or ported to anything
>literal next week the fucking thing's running on dreamcast, xbox 360, windows 10 with ultra widescreen and 60fps
It's happened like 10 times now so I'm just gonna start ignoring them when they say it's not going to happen.

usually the thing is, the psychology is that they're making a wrong assumption, and someone else is correcting them, as opposed to just giving the answer

i suspect the same thing will happen to the Ninja Gaiden 2 decomp by the Brazilians, there's just gonna be some turbo-autist Argentinian who's like "hitler's my grandpa" and completes the thing in under a week

that particular one's a pretty bog-standard gta clone that's mostly carried by the surprisingly solid comedy, worth a playthrough
