It was for the time. But you knew that, this is just a bait thread.
OoT was originally planned to have dating sim mechanics. Which girl would you have pursued if they'd have gone through with it?
Saria for me personally.

As far as N64 games go, OoT holds up quite well actually. Far better than shit like Bomberman 64.

Weird how dreamcast was the only one that had the proper tech that was available at the time and not shit from 10 years ago at that time.

The Nintendo 64 was very experimental, and the result is that virtually all games, except those released very close to the end of the console's life, look extremely ugly, as if they were all unfinished tech demos or something, and it has always been that way, ever since back then.
When I got my first PSX from a friend in Japan, I already had an N64, and as soon as I ran the demo disc for that console, I immediately noticed that Nintendo was completely screwed. Seeing the Parappa Rapper demo made me realize that the N64 was totally incapable, within the quality that was expected in 1996, of: playing decent quality music, playing decent quality sound effects, displaying decent sprites on the screen, rendering a clear image, having diversity of art on the screen, having large and detailed textures, etc.
The PSX made me realize immediately that Nintendo's console wasn't capable of running 1996 games, let alone 2000 games, when you would expect that generation to be coming to an end.
