The narrative, writing, dialogue, characters and the story in general was always Dragon Age's greatest strength. Dev-hell where it went through multiple reboots and genres.
It was too much of a hugbox, losing the edginess the original had and going so far that the dialogues sound like they were taken out of a kids show. The whole plot itself is very bluntly bent around that with the theme of you having to make the team like a second family, and you can't disagree with your companions about anything.
Gameplay suffers from when they planned to make it a live service. It's overly simplified in actual mechanics and instead just encourages you to spam combos over and over.
Because of the above, the build-making is pretty limited, and in big part reliant on items, and you don't really get a proper choice when it comes to those, instead they're split over multiple quests/locations, which makes completing them very annoying.
The graphics are awful by design. Characters are ugly, proportions unheroic, and the shading makes it look pixar inspired.
I was surprised with it being relatively bug-free tho.

Dragon Age as a franchise never established a solid identity for itself. Every game felt like an attempt to depart from what preceded it. Bioware, a company that made its reputation originally on party based fantasy RPGs, seemed to have come to the belief that you can't be profitable anymore with this kind of game unless you can jazz it up and make it feel rapid and action-y. You saw this starting with DA2. DA:I was an attempt at compromise. Most of the game you can run around like Command Shepard just doing your thing, but you can control other characters if need be and switch to a 'strategy mode' for longer fights. Based on that I think BG3's success must really irk them since it proved the basic idea wrong. BG3 is a slow turned based and ponderous game.

i dont like the turn based combat, its so slow and cumbersome. couldnt play divinity original sin or those pathfinder games because everything takes forever and you have to learn so much shit. inquisitions combat is way better, there is only a handful of things you have to learn and its very fast and fluid. much comfier.
