Grew up with his nation occupied by a foreign power that was brutalizing his people, saw horrors a boy should never have to. Fought and gave everything he had to drive them out and became a hero for it. Then he lost his best friend and discovered that his best friend's spoiled brat of a son was going to marry the Queen of that prior occupying nation and essentially gift her back Ferelden on a platter. Loghain didn't understand the threat of the Darkspawn, few really did beyond the Wardens. What he did understand was the threat that haunted his every nightmare, Orlesians. That doesn't justify his decision, but I think it's entirely comprehensible why he'd make it. I can't really hate him.

This is inquisition lore, probably written from the original bible even. Bioware spent a shitons of time writing the lore between the early 2000' and 2009.

Btw, they never said they told Loghain what to do, they might have set pieces in place to allow the betrayal. Maybe by making Loghain salty toward Cailan.

We'll probably never know what they did.

King Cailan's army being slaughtered reverberated the entire fortress, making it pulsate even as the 9 bronze stamina draught circulated through his powerful thick veins and washed away his (merited) fear of frogs after dark."With a warhorse, you can go anywhere you want" he said to himself, out loud.

Why does this keep happening? All it does is undermine everything from arcs to now having to come up with a sensible reason for why these external forces even cared enough to go through with it. Iโ€™d take a hundred Palpatines or evil fantasy dark lords or power-hungry maniacs like Loghain over these subversive and deconstructive archetypes.

If you're stupide enough to take everything at face value. There is nothing we can do about it.

The whole DA lore is about biased narrative, lying fuckers, twisted truth, half lie, deluded self righteous morons.

The people beyond the sea has been foreshadowed since origins and there is no reason or hints that make me thing that we must trust what they say.

Because theyโ€™re not, Irish are more or less still Celts, English are Germanic. It started with the Britons, then the Romans came and they intermingled, then the Angles and Saxons came, then the Danes, then the Normans. And then to add all that that geeza Enry made the country Protestant while the Irish remained Catholic. Iโ€™m simplifying a bit but over all they donโ€™t really have much in common and itโ€™s a whole shit show.

I think modern Bioware is deathly afraid of letting the player decide to have a party of characters that have done questionable or even reprehensible things in their backstory. They are allergic to the idea of letting the player be evil or have a bad guy run. Compare that to something as innocuous and juvenile as the KOTOR games. Where you can order the wookie to gore your jailbait twilik to death

It's an easy and cheap way for writers to one-up the previous threat with an even bigger threat in order to raise the stakes, and pretend they were building up some 4D chess "everything was connected all along" level lore. Other reason they might do shit like this is turning villainous characters into dindus, because they're unable to understand that people who sympathize with villains still want them to be villains.

From a budget/time perspective, I think it was just more tempting for them to be lax with branching evil choices that they know only a small minority of players will bother choosing in the end anyway.

It's the same logic that made them remove the neutral dialogue option from ME3. They were already working crunch hours up against a deadline, so someone figured it was easier to cut out the option that no one ever really chose.

Human Noble is the most kino of Origins. You get the initial status, the loving family, the Game of Thrones betrayal and murder, the personal revenge against Howe... it's pure cinema.

Oghren is about as stereotypical of a fantasy dwarf as you can get, but I think he's alright. Steve Blum seemed to have fun with the role, and I like the moments of pushback he gives on certain choices. I always liked the line when he leaves the party, "I hope you succeed Warden, but I hope it kills you."

His role in Awakening is a little odd if you spent his whole character quest in Origins helping him get a real relationship going, but it's fine as a final hoorah, considering that it's an optional epilogue and he doesn't really show up again.

Day one they hinted the Qunari came from beyond the sea and fled something. What about the former human civilization of Par Vollen ?

That's true, they went deeper with the dwarfs coming from beyond the sea in the Anderfels and the Inquisition stuff.

But fluff always hinted mysteries from out for the Thedas we know.
