Every Christmas I play a couple of tour on MVM, I enjoy he mode but unless they make some serious adjustments to rewards and whatnot I doubt people will go back into the mode.

Funny but no, it's just a horde mode from 2012 not that different from it's contemporaries since every fps had pve tacked on at the time. It's freemium in that you only pay to receive loot at the end but paid queue is gigacancer with no fun allowed metaniggers (think l4d versus), avoiding that, it's a decent way to kill time if you're too brainless for pvp due to all the build variety from upgrades.

Its probably going to be some MvM maps that have been fully finished but sitting around for years like pic related, because there is an absolute metric ton of MvM maps that have barely been played in the last 11 years because Valve basically forgot that MvM existed after the Two Cities update and most people who play MvM just play it for the crap that can drop from the tours.

I really don't think someone has enough time to throw together a map in 2 months compared to someone that has had 13 years to make an MvM map.

The extra good thing about older MvM maps is that people make missions for them long after the map itself is done.
This single map that you posted probably has upward of 20 missions across varying difficulties,. You aren't starved for choice.

I think this is their way of leaving it technically open to anyone's submissions but actually they only are going to be filtering through the dedicated custom mvm playerbase. Realistically no one is going to be able to blitz through every single mvm custom map and mission that's going to be blasted to the workshop, even dedicated custom MvM players don't have that kind of time, so they're gonna lean on prior successes.
The advantage is that they don't tether themselves to any specific community leadership since the last time that happened we got the clusterfuck of drama that was the Invasion Update and that made them swear off doing community-run updates ever again.

The game is mostly unchanged, some fun weapons got nerfed because compfags whined, Pyro got a rebalance re: hit detection and afterburn that you might not notice, there's wallhacks for teammates when you spawn so Spies get fucked over, other than that everyone's doing the same stuff they've always done
Quickplay got replaced with a much worse casual matchmaking and community servers are far fewer than they used to, but once you get into a game you'll get back into it
